NTSC-J Xbox 360

Not sure if this is in the right forum or not (the game forum seems to be more focused on larger threads for specific games/series), feel free to move as applicable.

I'm looking to purchase a NTSC-J compatible 360, mainly for playing bullet hell games (from CAVE in particular). I've done some digging around, but I've found absolutely huge price variances, large ranges in shipping costs, among other things.

Does anyone have any advice on what to buy, and where to buy it from?

Additionally, I'm in the US, so I suspect a 220V power brick isn't going to fly here. Is there an adapter I can get?

Japan uses 100-125 volts, just like the USA. As long as you don't get an Asian system, you won't need any power adapters.

Play-Asia has always been my source for importing hardware. Their shipping is more reasonable to me in Alaska than ordering from NCSX on the East Coast, no idea how that will work for you in Mass. though.

Look under the Microsoft label for the region. The Asia ones use a 220-240 volt power brick. The Japan ones use a 100-125 volt brick. Of course you can always buy a local power brick and substitute for what comes with the console, but then you are likely bringing them equal in price again. Japan uses the same power plug as the US, Asia uses a different plug shape.

I see the price still hasn't dropped noticably since I looked a year ago, with the exchange rate for yen/USD sucking. I've been waiting to get a Japanese 360, since most American games will play on one, but most Japanese games won't play on an American system. The price dropped in Japan at least a year ago, but then our exchange rates went screwy and Play-Asia didn't change any prices in USD to go with the JP price drop.

If you're gonna drop 200-300 bucks on a Japanese system, you may as well just buy a JTAGGED system for $200-$300, allows you to play games region free as well as all the other hacked console goodness.

Those can't go online without getting banned, no? There's a decent amount of DLC I'd want to buy.

Yes/no, if you have a source, you can DL the DLC and patch it into your games on a JTAGed. Still can't go online, but as far as DLC is concerned, you can still get it.

Unfortunately, due to Modern Warfare 2 lobbies, JTAG'd xboxes are super rare
