    Another Annoying problem

    Ok once again I have another problem. that sadly the internet isisnt able to figure out for me

    We have a domain with GPO using the M$ GPO management console on W2k3

    I have 1 user (might be more but only 1 user that reported the problem)

    When she plug exemple an USB camera (it connect 3 drivers F G H) but only the F have picture, the problems is that it doesn't auto launch

    So she has to go manually to my computer F then DCIM etc etc

    I tried using Microsoft Autofix which tells me the problem is my GPO

    When Autofix fixes the problem it creates another problems with makes F G and H auto launch but we want only F to auto launch not G and H

    So when autofix fixes the problem everything works for 2-3 days then it comes back as not autolaunching

    If we right click the drive and go to autorun tab everything is set to Autorun but it doesn't work

    Also when i check the log in the autofix it gives me only HKCUolicies then ...... so no idea where it fixed the problem in regedit

    So is my problem is my GPO? if yes what line can I change to fix that once and for all?

    Thx

    You have the choice of doing two things:

    1) If you are using global policy management (which you said yo uare), for his/her account, or anyone it applies to; add an autorun.inf to their startup script. You would input:

    [autorun]
    option=value

    'Option' is the option that you want to set and value is the value that you are setting for that option.label option. For example, if you wanted to call their camera memory card/drive, add this to my autorun.inf file:

    label=Camera

    You want to run the DCIM folder, you would add the this to your autorun.inf file:

    open=memory card path

    The second option that we add is the message the user is prompted with. To set this, we use the action option. If you want the message to say Open Memory Card, add the following to autorun.inf:

    action=Open Memory Card

    (When this option is selected with AutoPlay, click use this by default)

    2) Buy a memory card reader for the user.

    Mini update on the problem

    Legend

    PCA = PC the user logs on too normally
    USERA = User with the problem
    PCB = 2nd PC for test purpose
    USERB = User for test purpose

    So if we plug the camera on PCA while on USERA it doesnt autorun
    If we plug the camera on PCA while on USERB the camera autorun #1

    If we plug the camera on PCB with USERA it doesn't run
    If we plug the Camera on PCB with USERB it works

    So the problem is with the user

    But I checked the policy at Computer Config > Admin Template > System > Disable autorun and it's set to not configured

    mmmm

    Edit : To add also When we logged on PCB with UserA that user never logged on that PC before so it created a local profile so the problem is not the local profile neither is the PC

    Did it doesnt work

    It is enabled in Computer config and not config in User config no change

    Also PCA PC B User A and user B are all in the same OU which means they all have the 100% exact GPO

    Did you try enabling it under the Administrator account?

    Also; give me exact menus you are at. Are you on an active directory server or do you just have global policies?

    Administrator account? I enabled it from an account which is Domain Admin

    I am on the AD server so I have a Domain Global policy then a "Site policy" then a Departement policy

    So if we look at the order the group policy looks at it does departement > Site > Domain

    So if I go in Departement policy in Computer Configuration > Administratrive templates > System there is a policy called Disable Autoplay (I have it set it to disable because if I put Enable it should Disable Autoplay)

    If I then go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System the same policy is at disabled

    Then if I look at the site and departement policy for both computer and User it says Not configured which means that it will keep the one in Department as Active

    And if i read the description inside the group policy it says IF the user and the computer config has the same rule the one in the computer configuration takes action

    You could make a mapped network drive to the path of the DCIM folder. When the camera or device is plugged in, s/he would simply just have to click a shortcut on their desktop or taskbar.

    If that's the case, I think you should ignore that help desk call.

    Is it possible that this is a setting saved in roaming profiles (if your using them)?

    I know the user is prompted when they plug in a device, but there is also a check box to stop the prompt from occurring. If the user checked this its possible it is being stored in their roaming profile?
