I love the Academy awards because it gives me a nice clean list of movies to download that I know don't suck.

I've only seen 2 of the Best Picture nominees, so that's something that should keep me busy for a week or so.

There's a good chance it will happen. Didn't social network take the golden globe for best original score?

king's speech is great; 127 hours is riding on the incredible true story, but the film itself is kinda meh

Yeah it did and I'd disagree with you both but I recently saw the film and the movie's great and the score's also a great contender.

I would settle for one Oscar for Nolan. Now that Scorsese has his, no one deserves it more.

Bale for Best Supporting Actor. Thing about The Fighter is that it's based on a true story (dramatized surely but still). Don't care about anything else!

I was sorely disappointed in "The Social Network". I also think "The King's Speech got a bit too much hype, however, Colin Firth is fucking amazing and will undoubtedly win best actor. I think Black Swan should get movie of the year, but it won't. If "The Social Network" wins, I'll rage. Nolan deserves the Scorsese treatment and win best director since he's been screwed twice already. I like Bale for best supporting. I like Portman for actress, but I've heard Kidman was really good in Rabbit Hole. Supporting actress will go to Hailee Steinfield or Amy Adams. I'd like to see Aronofsky win best director since he won't take best picture, but it'll probably go to the director who doesn't win best picture between Hooper and Fincher. Oddly enough, the documentary category is kind of stacked with Exit through the Gift Shop, Restrepo, and Inside Job. I'd imagine Restrepo will win.

I want Toy Story 3 to win mostly because animation deserves some fucking respect (but also because it was great).

animation does deserve respect, which is why there's a category called "Best Animated Feature Film of the Year". But there's no reason for it to be in the running for best motion picture of the year.

Yes there is, because Pixar has consistently made movies that go beyond good animated movies. with the exception of Cars, every movie they've made since Monsters Inc, has been amongst the better movies of that year, if not the best. And the Academy has often honored movies/actors for stuff after the fact (i.e. ROTK getting all of LOTRs gold, Pacino for Scent of a Woman, Scorsese for Depahted, etc.). It is getting way past due for Pixar to be honored for being consistently the best filmmakers of the last ~16 years, TS3 would be the perfect film to do this as it's their original trilogy, and the last movie in a trilogy gets honored ala ROTK

Am I missing something? Are you saying Pacino and Scorcese won oscars because they had been consistently putting out good work so Pixar deserves one too? There is so much fucked up with this post

That's not what I was saying at all. I was saying that Scorsese/Pacino got their shit belatedly and their awards were meant to honor their whole body of work that had been looked over. Ask anybody who knows anything about movies or the oscars, Pacino won for Scent of a Woman because the Academy knew they had passed him over for too long, same with Scorsese. Can you honestly with a straight face say that he deserved it for Depahted more then for Taxi Driver or Raging Bull? Or Pacino for Scent of a Woman and not for Serpico, Godfather I/II, etc etc?

There is nothing fucked up w/ my post, Pacino/ROTK/Scorsese are just the most well known recently, but if you go back and look at Woody Allen or John Wayne (getting gold for True Grit and not for The Searchers/Rio Bravo, etc) you see my point.

So like with those examples, TS3 is a great movie all around, but they deserved wins much more for Ratatouille, Up, Wall-E, Incredibles and Monsters Inc, but got passed over because of academy biases against animated movies and scifi/fantasy. So this should be their year, like 2003 was ROTKs.

i just looked up the other nominees for the year ROTK won... fuck me, no wonder ROTK won. Fortunately this years noms are actually good; i highly doubt they will pass out a "charity-oscar" this time around.

Well I dunno who he was against for Taxi Driver or Raging bull, look at the competition. The Departed was his best work I had seen since Goodfellas (probably both on the same level). And Pacino wasn't that great in the Godfather I and II (Sepirco maybe he deserved it) Scent of a woman is on a entire other level if you want to compare the 2 performances
