Maybe I was just naively hoping we might have finally fucking figured out how to do this whole democracy thing.

Edit: Maybe we should have pulled out to go pee decades ago. Then they wouldn't have gotten pregnant with corruption and apartheid.

Oh we're cool with democracy, as long as it suits our corporate geopolitical interests.

Yea not sure where this rage about US response is coming from...Obama has been in his ear telling him to step down, its no fucking secret.

US isn't an omnipotent God, we can't just tell someone to do something and they do it.

I was trying to be facecious there, I don't know if it didn't come off that way. I am kind of bad at it I guess. But anyway, pretty much.

Obama's been in meetings and on calls all day with the likes of the King of Jordan about Egypt. Getting advice from the other dictators in the region on how Egypt can move towards democracy is a master stroke.

It's more that they've so far refused to directly condemn him publicly, instead doing it in a roundabout way, which is wholly unsatisfying and just makes them come off as impotent (or non-committed).

Would you like Obama to organize a press conference and call him a poopoo head on national TV? You can't condemn a foreign leader much more harshly than telling them to step down immediately.

Are you implying doing so would somehow affect anything negatively? It sure as fuck doesn't paint us in a good light if we go about lightly or indirectly condemning someone who is almost certainly on the way out. Be that tomorrow, or in September. Especially after the abuses he's perpetrated with our backing, much less what he's done in the past two days. He's ignored condemnations of the violence his gangs have caused, and for the calls to begin immediately with a transitional government. If he's just going to brush them off, then what else is there to really lose by riding him harder?

Also, apparently the single death so far was a soldier.

It's like being in a elevator and someone keeps farting. Everyone knows who did it. Most ppl tell the guy he stinks, cut it out, gtfo of the elevator etc. While the US (who've been feeding the guy beans) say "Oh there seems to be a bad smell all of a sudden, I hope it doesn't last much longer..."

I forget how many commercials are on tv until I go back there after watching news online.

Staying the line between, by just saying "we support democracy and people who want it" is really the best thing we can do in this situation. Honestly, Obama actually saying he wanted this to happen immediately instead of, you know, whenever, was a lot more than I expected in this situation.

It seems wrong if we do wrong if we don't on it. People complaining that we are sticking our noses in other's business but then "Why didn't the US[insert phrase]? I don't pretend to understand diplomacy though so just commenting.

He is talking to the only remaining ally of Israel in the ME still in power. Meeting makes sense in that context, plus it lets him hear from Israel on the matter without directly phoning them, a move that would alarm many in Egypt. Don't forget Bibi's recent demands that the new gov't in Egypt, whatever form it should take, must abide by the treaties that have allowed Israel to commit next to zero resources to defending their southern borders while maintaining a nonstop blockade on the Gaza Strip.

Anti-gov't protesters are blocking the North side of the square , with cars and debris, to prevent pro-gov't thugs from entering.
They are also using green laser lights to blind the pro-gov't people who are on rooftops throwing bricks, and reportedly, homemade bombs.

It's just like every aspect of life, people will bitch just to bitch, and they will even bitch about one thing and after it's changed bitch about it being changed. It's really evident especially in video game forums and politics.

Those pro-mubarak are not normal regular folks, but police trained in crowd control. You have to train a horse to charge a crowd.
