I know one thing, I'm sure Saudi Arabia is really worried right now.

Not to mention with the mention in that Wikileaks cable that says Saudi Arabia is running out of oil. That'll get the people really riled up.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I'm really interested to see what, if anything, will happen in the other ME countries now that they know they can win without assassination or ripping their country apart.

Hes probably trying to get his ass out of the country. I wonder if it is true the Swiss seized Mubarak's assets because I saw that tweeted and cant confirm it.

Been an honor going through this major event with everyone here. ^^

I'm so happy for everyone in Egypt and I really do hope that it works out well for them.

Voting to make this an all-star BG thread. :D

I saw a number of articles saying the Mubarak appeared "disoriented" during his speech last night when he pulled a fast one, but since I was listening to the translator and not him, I didn't want to speculate. My thought is that his refusal last night was given in order to give him and his family the chance to get out of Cairo before Suleiman could announce his resignation, but there's no way to know unless more information comes to light.

    From Reuters

(Reuters) - Switzerland has frozen assets possibly belonging to Hosni Mubarak, who stepped down as president of Egypt Friday after 30 years of rule, a spokesman for the foreign ministry said.

"I can confirm that Switzerland has frozen possible assets of the former Egyptian president with immediate effect," spokesman Lars Knuchel said, declining to specify how much money was involved.

In recent years, Switzerland has worked hard to improve its image as a haven for ill-gotten assets and has also frozen assets belonging to Tunisia's former President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali as well as those of Ivory Coast's Laurent Gbagbo.

So, what now? Military rule for a bit, then an election?

Everything I've heard is that it would be a military/civilian/judiciary council as a transitional government in order to set up elections and a new constitution.

basically, it could easily take months for them to try and setup the elections, so military rule until then

Military rule, until egyptians come up with a new constitution, then elections after that. As of yet, there is no time line.

I learned a lot from people's contributions to this thread and I thank everyone for that.

It has been pretty crazy and I really look forward to updating this thread with info on their first elections since the fall of he who will no longer be named. I was so worried that the news would turn their eyes away and find new less important stories to cover and that the Egyptian government would continue to punish its people.

Through this whole thing I discovered how beautiful, creative and resourceful the Egyptian people are. I saw a democracy and freedoms bestowed by people to each other inside of a circle within a dictatorship. Like a small utopia women & men had different rights inside of Tahrir and it was self policed. I learned what it is like to witness a revolution from the ground up, what real courage and utter fearlessness in the face of a dictator looks like. I feel honored just having tweeted with some of them and just being able to see it on my computer as it unfolds, honored just to witness it.

I also think that the biggest thing I have noticed is how lucky my ass is to be free, to be a pagan or christian or atheist, to have tattoos on my face and piercings, to be able to vote or not to vote, to have internet. There are so many things I have not even begun to appreciate.

My mom always told me about this, being her parents were immigrants and did not hesitate to remind her of how precious freedom is.

He has to say that, it's important he says that. The transition/eventual solidified gov. has to be autonomous.

oh I didn't mean anything by it, the lol was more about how short the statement was. Got already to type a synopsis and he finished before I got started.
