EVO World Finals: Rio Las Vegas, July 29-31 2011 and the New Evo Tournament Season
It’s official. Evolution World Finals, the world’s premier open competitive fighting game tournament, will take place at the Rio Casino and Resort in Las Vegas on July 29-31. And with the introduction of the brand new Evolution 2011 Tournament Season, this year’s event will without a doubt be the biggest and baddest ever.

    The Evolution 2011 Tournament Season
This year, we’ve partnered up with 8 major tournaments from all over the United States and Canada to create a full season of Evolution events that will offer tournament seeding at Evo World Finals to the overall highest place finishers. Participating events include West Coast Warzone, GVN Winter Brawl, Final Round XIV, PowerUp 2011, and more! For more information on how the Evolution 2011 Tournament Season will be structured and a full schedule of events, visit the tournament season blog post here.

Shoryuken has teamed up with the Rio Casino and Resort to offer reduced rates for Evolution guests.

    Rates:

A Quick Introduction to Evolution World Finals
If you’re new to the fighting game scene and Evo is something that is new to you, here’s a very brief primer: As the world’s largest open fighting game tournament, the Evolution Championship Series has grown into a global event attracting thousands of competitors of the highest caliber from all over the world seeking victories, cash prizes, and community respect. For more than a decade, the tournament is where new talent emerges as champions, and where reigning champions grow into legends.

However, in recent years, Evo has evolved (no pun intended) into something more. It’s where community members and players ranging anywhere from the casual gamer and spectator to the hardcore tournament junkie can gather en masse and connect to meet in person, learn about the newest fighting game titles and hardware, witness the history in the making, and most importantly, throw down against opponents from all over the world. No matter who you ask, they’ll all tell you the same thing: If there’s only one event you can attend, Evolution is the tournament you will not want to miss.

For more information on the Evolution Championship Series and Evolution World Finals, visit Evo2k.com.

We look forward to seeing you there!

There is a DLC/update rule in place which doesn't allow DLC content added after June 1st. (Looking for direct quote.) This might cut off DLC characters or something like the AE update for SSFIV.

There are always plenty of smaller tournaments hosted for other games. I'll probably list them at some point.

    Registration:
There is a registration fee of 10.00 USD to enter each tournament. Finally, there's a 50.00 USD cover charge for attending the event.
    http://evo2k.com/?page_id=850

If you are going to EVO, say so(and say which games), and I'll put up a list of BG members who will be present.

    Evo Tournament Season
Starting in early January, EVO is partnering with the top grass-roots tournament organizers to form a regular season of fighting games. Our 2011 season will run from January through July, culminating in the EVO World Finals July 29-31 at the Rio Hotel and Resort, Las Vegas. At each stop of the tournament season, players will earn ranking points that will directly determine their seed in the tournament brackets at the EVO World Finals. With literally thousands of players attending the finals, you're going to want to secure that seed if you want to advance far in the brackets.
    Schedule in link.

You can talk about how excited you are. Or if you are going. Or talk about how crazy it is that MK9 is in it instead of Arcana Heart 3, MvC2, HDR, etc etc.

I will probably be there, depending on my health situation. I'm going to book at least and hope I feel good enough to actually go(getting some surgery done just a month before).

Hope they have another vote and we get Melty or AH3, aka, games I actually have potential to rank in(besides BB).

They sure gave up on TvC and HDR quick lol. And why only five featured games? Are they expecting a low turnout this year or something?

Probably trying to diversify the line-up, I mean MK9? Really? I don't think anyone has even had a chance to extensively sit down with the game. Also a shame KoF13 has yet to see a console release.

The last MK game I played was deception, and I remember there were easy infinites and tons of other super buggy/cheap shit discovered in the first week. I hope MK9 is similar, because it would just be hilarious in a giant tournament setting, with the massive crowd + commentators.

It's pretty obvious why MK9 is included, this kind of shit ruined the PC Gaming community in the west.
Whoring yourself out to play shit games for PR money is one good way to try and kill something beautiful.

    I do mind!
    Spoiler: show

Nothing super-serious, I'm getting my throat "resculpted" essentially because I have some major breathing difficulties, but since I'm very anemic surgery recoveries generally take much longer.

Frankly I'm more worried about my singing voice >.>/

They have only 5 games for the exact opposite reason: the attendance is once again expected to almost double.

Forget about those other games, the turnout for Marvel 3 is going to take up so much time that I don't see how they're even going to fit SF4 in.

Evo should therefore just drop the pretense and become a 100% mahvul tournament to satiate the endless waves of wiggers/chiggers/spiggers.

If they were interested in entertaining Mexican folks, they would just play the god awful game that is King of Fighters lawl

    Silly spanish speakers

The fact that they dropped MvC2 is just a huge failure on behalf of Mr. Wizard. He should be ashamed, honestly. It would still have more entries than Blazblue/3S/HDR/GGXX/KOF13/whatever other options there are.

    HAY

    Mexicans like MK too lawl.

And they dropped MvC2 for the same reason they dropped 3rd strike. Both the players and audience are more excited about the new games. The diversity of players at last year's SSF4 tournament brought us Evo 2010's best moments, period.

Will be hype MVC2 tourneys/MM in the hotel rooms as usual anyway.

Half of the people that go to Evo rely on MvC2 MM to pay for their trips. You don't F with that, learn yoself something Wiz.

He probably knows this. Which is why there isn't a huge need for MvC2 in the main show when people will be playing tons of side tournaments and making bets on it anwyay.
