A Quick Introduction to Evolution World Finals
If you’re new to the fighting game scene and Evo is something that is new to you, here’s a very brief primer: As the world’s largest open fighting game tournament, the Evolution Championship Series has grown into a global event attracting thousands of competitors of the highest caliber from all over the world seeking victories, cash prizes, and community respect. For more than a decade, the tournament is where new talent emerges as champions, and where reigning champions grow into legends.
However, in recent years, Evo has evolved (no pun intended) into something more. It’s where community members and players ranging anywhere from the casual gamer and spectator to the hardcore tournament junkie can gather en masse and connect to meet in person, learn about the newest fighting game titles and hardware, witness the history in the making, and most importantly, throw down against opponents from all over the world. No matter who you ask, they’ll all tell you the same thing: If there’s only one event you can attend, Evolution is the tournament you will not want to miss.

There is a DLC/update rule in place which doesn't allow DLC content added after June 1st. (Looking for direct quote.) This might cut off DLC characters or something like the AE update for SSFIV.
There are always plenty of smaller tournaments hosted for other games. I'll probably list them at some point.
Registration:
http://evo2k.com/?page_id=850There is a registration fee of 10.00 USD to enter each tournament. Finally, there's a 50.00 USD cover charge for attending the event.
If you are going to EVO, say so(and say which games), and I'll put up a list of BG members who will be present.
Evo Tournament Season
Schedule in link.Starting in early January, EVO is partnering with the top grass-roots tournament organizers to form a regular season of fighting games. Our 2011 season will run from January through July, culminating in the EVO World Finals July 29-31 at the Rio Hotel and Resort, Las Vegas. At each stop of the tournament season, players will earn ranking points that will directly determine their seed in the tournament brackets at the EVO World Finals. With literally thousands of players attending the finals, you're going to want to secure that seed if you want to advance far in the brackets.

You can talk about how excited you are. Or if you are going. Or talk about how crazy it is that MK9 is in it instead of Arcana Heart 3, MvC2, HDR, etc etc.
