    Item Searching and Stacking (01/28/2011)

    http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...0a6438db474b58

    http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/to...a9a5ffd33ad27d
As was outlined earlier this week, patch 1.15a (scheduled for release in early February) will contain several improvements and adjustments to existing features. Today's post will focus on the changes planned for both the market search function and item stack limits.

Additions to the Item Search Feature
Selecting individual items displayed in market search results will now provide a list of the twenty lowest asking prices for that item, as well as the following data:

    Retainer Name
    Set Size
    Retainer Location

    http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/to...8d563a0a356ce7

In addition, the number displayed next to item search results indicating how many of that item are available will now apply to the whole market, not only the area (ward/row/den) selected.

Regarding future updates, we are fully committed to improving the overall usability of the item search feature, and are currently considering the implementation of further additions, such as pin-point searches.

    Adjustments to Item Stack Limits
In an effort to standardize stack limits in accordance with category type, as well alleviate inventory overload, the limits for all items (excluding those marked as Rare) in the following categories have been increased to 99:

Sundries, Throwing Stones, Eggs, Vegetables, Spices, Fruits, Mushrooms, Foodstuffs, Freshwater Fare, Saltwater Fare, Meats, Dyes, Paints, Reagents, Metals, Unrefined Metals, Metal Sheets, Metal Wires, Weapon Heads, Weapon Butts, Weapon Grips, Chainmail Meshes, Armor Metals, Clasps, Raw Wood, Hides, Leathers, Furs, Armor Hides, Armor Leathers, Footwear Parts, Bones, Teeth & Claws, Wings, Armor, Ores, Stones, Gemstones, Fibers, Cloth, Hooded Attire Cloth, Cloth Bodies, Smallclothes Cloth, Cloth Sleeves, Front Cloth, Back Cloth, Armor Cloth, Feathers, and Armor Parts

omg. all wards search? also yay for ores and fishes stacking

Now let us buy the items directly from the search screen and you have an AH.

"BUT IT'S NOT CALLED AN AH!!11"

I think if they end up implementing both this kind of AH and XI style AH with their little differences it might turn out to be an interesting experiment. Marketplace shows seller names and prices, while the normal AH would only show how many items are being sold and the price history. AH could also be used for strictly selling and buying while Markets can be used for looking/trading for specific items and repairs as well (and selling damaged gear or (uneven) stacks of materials one by one and so on).

It'd be also nice to see the systems fleshed out in other ways (like giving retainers perks when you level them up), giving sellers more ways to market their wares/stand out (idk how they could do that though, with "retainer comment" maybe?) and stuff like that.

Right then... Time to keep undercutting everyone else...

Though lowest 20 doesn't seem so bad, I was thinking they'd do lowest FIVE.

They really didn't have to put the prices in there at all, because now it's going to cause exactly what they were trying to prevent - pricefixing.

And maybe I'm the only one, but I kind of liked the balance they'd struck with giving you help finding the people with an item... but you had to decide how much time you wanted to spend finding the best price. I'm a little on the fence if showing prices is a good idea or not...

At this point i wouldn't be surprised if they reversed ever single thing they were trying to prevent in the beginning. Look how well that worked out. They could keep trying new things or they could go with something that they know at least somewhat worked in the past.

Well, to them showing item prices instead of a price history is a new thing.

I think if they end up implementing AH it won't work similarly to this 'AH'.. otherwise it would be useless. But I guess before they decide whether to implement it or not, they need to see the effects of these changes first.

Now get rid of the waste of time it takes running to the retainer to purchase the item and we're good.

The article is worded in a confusing manner. Clicking through to that link gives no indication whatsoever that everything they are talking about is something planned for the future.

In all fairness, if you got there from the main page, it does point out that these are planned changes. But still, talking about future features (that may or may not be implemented exactly as described) in past/present tense (instead of future tense) is silly.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

showing prices is a good thing imo. I have always like that type of ah system in other games (and no, not just wow, even eq2 does that shit). Only way this will hurt is people not used to that kind of system in an ff game, but considering this is like an "extended" beta, I think it'll turn out for the best.

Either way, it's a fucking awesome thing we voted for an AH as the #2 priority when the Marketplace is one adjustment away from becoming just as good. Hell yeah informed masses.

Despite it not being an AH, its still a good update. Now it shows the items no matter what market ward the item/retainer is in, so that's win. Even if its just a baby step, its still a step in the right direction.

I sort of would've liked more info on the "adjustment to SP in parties" portion more though.

It may not be as fast as any of us want it to be, but they polled us - they listened - they (Yoshi, anyway) talked to us like actual people - and now they're (slowly) implementing. Shit, its almost as if they're running a business

I know! That's like all the time we wasted complaining about the slow interface, when they greatly improved the interface speed in the first major update anyway!

Because AH coming in as the #2 priority has nothing to do with the Marketplace being made much more AH-like in the first post-poll update.

Yeah that's awesome, I bet it has nothing to do with their plans to implement another similar, now about to become useless system in the near future either.

Although now they can make a new poll post-update so people will finally come to their senses. Or they could just not give a shit and scrap the AH anyway.

Well, if they implement a Market Ward search that allows me to browse everything available in all wards, instantly see the prices of all items, and let me buy them using the search interface (but still totally not an AH, yo!), in addition to standardizing the taxes across wards (so I don't get penalized for selling more than one category of item) and fixing the ward crashing problems, then sure, I'll "come to my senses" and realize that an AH is no longer needed.

Because they will have implemented one, in every way that matters.
