    Random shutdowns

I'm at a loss to why my computer keeps randomly shutting down. Normally figuring this stuff out isn't an issue but I have nothing in my logs that are pointing me in any kind of direction. Here's a list of when it happens:

    1) After being on for a few hours, sometimes it will be on for 12 hours sometimes 2.
    2) Shuts down in 15-30min when I have WOW open and I'm doing stuff in game, doesn't really change if I just have it open.
    3) Currently running OCCT stress test on my proc, it's currently running at 100% load with 64 - 72c on all the cores. It's been running for about 15min.

Nothing except the unexpected shutdown is in the logs, nothing about the vid card freaking out and ram seems to check out. Anyone have any ideas as to where or what I should use to try and figure out what's going on? Thinking of maybe trying a new vid card.

Looks like it might be running too hot, and thermal protection on the CPU kicking in. I know mines set to warn at 60 and shutdown at 70c. Might want to check that your heatsink is attached properly or invest in a new one if its a stock cooler. Can try redoing the thermal paste also with some artic silver or something.

Hard to guess anything else with such few details (machine specs, how does it shut down does it just flick off like you pulled the plug or follow normal windows shutdown procedures, etc etc)

I guess I should check in the bios, but it only hit those temps with full 100% procs for a few minutes during a stress test. Right now it's running at 38 Celsius.

    Proc: i7 920
    vid card: ATI HD 4600
Cooling: after market internal water cooling.

Shutdown: just straight power off, new PSU because old one went out so it's possible I need to get a new one but the stress test passed.

Funny enough because I've been having the same problem >.>;; PC randomly as hell just turns off like i yanked it out of the wall socket. Can go weeks w/o it happening or can have it happen multiple times in a day. Usually not doing any gaming either just doing shit like using firefox or thunderbird and nothing shows in logs. The wiring here is awful though so I figure I've probably assed my power supply. One of my RAM sticks also has a bad bit in it on test 8 in memtest that I'm fixing to send back to corsair so perhaps that will fix it although I'm doubting it.

I wish I could help more, but yeah I've been looking for several months and can't find a solution to at least my form of the problem. Most peoples seems to be from thermal events which is nigh impossible in my rig (shitty pentium D in a 900 with all fans on max and an freezer pro heatsink, never goes above 30c even @100%).

If you find the answer shoot me a PM cause man it's frustrating as hell. I'll be sure to let you know if I make any progress with it.

Edit: Just verifying (you said ram seemed to pass but just confirming) have you run memtest on it yet?

I had this problem and it turned out to be a semi bad piece of ram. Corsair replaced it and it went away.
Mem tests did not fail even though the ram was bad. I found the error only after taking one of my sets of ram out and the pc never shut down.

Nice, thats reassuring to hear. Now just have to find my box the corsair ram came in (not even sure if it is required). Thanks for the information! ^^
