the legal thing is because they dont take stolen property. if its new and sealed, why cant you return it with a receipt? they've had several arrests of employees for knowingly taking stolen merchandise just to get used product.

The sad thing is I was fired by Gamestop waaaaaaay back in the day for refusing to take obviously stolen games as trade ins so my store wasn't meeting the used goals that they had set for me. It made me furious since my douchebag of a DM told me that if I couldn't prove that it was stolen I had to take it. It's pretty easy to figure out when a guy comes in with 5 copies of the same game for ps2, xbox, and gamecube that was just released two days ago and wants to trade them in that something isn't right. I'm actually really glad that I no longer have to work for that retarded company...

Haha! Not laughing at you getting fired. But more so laughing at I got fired for something equally retarded. I knew the store manager, so he hired me. We were always really cool. He had taken the store over after a really bad manager had gotten fired. There were 3 of us there that full timed,a nd a couple part timers. It was a crazy busy store. I was there 45+ hours a week as they always authorized OT there.

I got at least 8-10 subs a day (back when they really hawked the shit) and probably the same amount in pre-orders a day, had good ideas for re-merching the store. I did a 23 hour inventory with the Store Mgr. He said if I kept it up, I was going places. DM had taken notice and everything.

So one day I wasn't there, and one of the keyholders used my discount without me being there for his friend. LP was called in to interview us both. I had nothing to do with it and still fucking got fired. The other kid got fired too, but still I was completely wronged. It was just one of the first things the DM did to bring down that store mgr. Mainly because he knew his job was in trouble. I honestly could not believe it. It was the first and last time I had ever gotten fired, and for such a shit reason. I really did like working there. I still remember the name of the regional LP douchebag that fired me. Chris Dempsey. What a prick. Granted this is almost going back 10 years ago, so I didn't have the gall I have no to speak up about certain things, but if this happened now... oh man.

We had turned away people with obviously stolen stuff. Cops came in right after the perps left and caught them as a result. Dumbasses. Stealing from the Best Buy 5 minutes away, then coming to the Gamestop.

Oh man, I know the feeling. My store was always one of the best with reservations and if they needed to bring a regional manger or a VP to a store it was always mine since it always looked the best/had great merchandising etc. Then our district got split and I was stuck with a newly promoted DM who felt like he had to prove that he deserved the job or something so he was always on my case over trade in numbers. If I had stayed in the old district I never would have been fired since my old DM absolutely loved me. It still bugs me because I was fired over a bullshit reason, but store managers who were faking reservations, taking obviously stolen merchandise as trade ins, and generally doing all sorts of other shady shit were still there months and in some cases years after I left. Of course now I'm grateful that I was fired since it let me get an actual career job in banking instead of being stuck in retail.

On a side note on the very rare occasion that I actually go in a gamestop these days I'm appalled by the terrible condition of the stores. They're never straightened up/cleaned up and generally just look like shit, and the employees are just a bunch of mouth breathing neckbeards that don't know shit about games. I really wonder how they manage to stay in business some days.

Selling a game myself through amazon I normally make a dollar or two on the shipping stipend as first class for a dvd is actually under media mail's price. Can buy the postage with built in delivery confirmation right through amazon too.

My DM gives us pizza parties lolol. And also comes and does our 40 box shipment for us, then leaves our backroom looking like ass ):

But, anyway, I actually had someone trade in a splinter cell game that said property of blockbuster on it. And my manager goes "property of gamestop now"

Well, Blockbuster does occasionally sell games/movies that don't have a high enough demand anymore, and they do usually have the blockbuster stamp on it. Not that that's what the guy was thinking.

I've returned a handful of games I got for free to Walmart without a receipt.

GS question: Is it true they issue refunds for used games within 7 days of purchase? I know they don't issue refunds for brand new ones, so..

Yes, but I'm pretty sure it's store credit only. A couple of my buddies wait til they have a string of days off, buy a used game or two, marathon and return, then sit on the credit til they're ready to repeat.

its returned however you paid for it if its used within 7 days. you paid cash you get cash back. do it too much though and it throws up a flag to LP and theyll only let you trade in your used games.

My blockbuster store is closing, selling games for dirt cheap. So I picked up 4 copies of black ops for $25/each and traded them into the gamestop next door for $40/each lol

about 3 or 4 years ago that was really common, you could basically accrue MASSIVE amounts of store credit at blockbuster and gamestop by abusing discrepancies in used game prices between the 2 chains. There was a period where you could even cash out your store credit at blockbuster by using it to buy pre-paid visa cards, lol

7 days on used games for a refund, 30 days if it's defective. But it will only refund the manner in which you paid, so for example if it happened to be a gift paid for with a visa, you'd need to persons visa.

But if you bought it you just need the receipt.
