I stated it elsewhere before but I highly believe the reason that people like FF8, aside from the system, is because they all played it during their teenage days, and because FF8 had a school theme to it, the 2 kinda hooked! It sure worked for me and my mates when we were 13-14 at the time. Back then, the idea of this game was like a fantasy dream for us, as lame as it sounds, since we were all looking forward to going to College/university to be independent. FF8 hammers this point on a bit, with the travel, and turning up to classes, etc (outside of the other more fantasy elements, i.e. summons/fighting).

I agree with that observation 100% Even though Squall was a real pussy at times, he was kind of relate-able in ways, too. Now, FF7 will always be special to me because of ridiculous scale and hype at the time while being on a revolutionary new system. Oh, and it was my introduction into the RPG genre, that may make me a little biased, too. lol FF9 is a close tie with FF7 on my favorite of the series.

Just don't touch that trainwreck known as FFX and all will be well for any future wallscrolls.

This is true for me - I was 12 years old when it came out, and growing up.

As I've said before, I would do one of FF9/7 if I had a program to extract the backgrounds from the discs.

Generally the time you spend building stats up doesn't ever get negated, in other games.

I played through the game at the time and will again, it does have things in it's favor, but the draw system is a very major weak point

That kind of falls apart when one of the spells that make for good junctioning of some stats are fucking CURE spells.
And nope, didn't agree, if I got magic, I wanna fucking use it.

spells worth using in FF8: aura, highest cure, full-life

Chances are, you should only really dying from the hardest bosses, at the end of the game, when you don't need magic after the fact anyways. Aura isn't a great spell to junction, neither is the highest cure. full-life is the only exception there. oh noez there is one spell in the entire game that is an inconvenience to cast.

I didn't have time this week, so I don't have it yet. One estimate got me 37 euros, but I think I can get it cheaper.

I used PS discs, but you can use ISOs to write discs so I don't see why not.
