My favorite thing was the fucking encyclopedia they expected you to read to understand what the fuck anyone was talking about because their writing was so shitty they couldn't just show it.

I even forgot FFXIII had a datalog during my first playthrough and still understood the story (which is one of the easiest ones to follow in the entire series).

Most marks and espers will eat you alive if you rely on gambits unless you're way overleveled.
I just let the AI deal with random garbage mobs while I had fun micromanaging against bosses.
I really had fun playing FFXII that way.

No it doesnt? You just walk backwards in the same line you already walked in. If you call the one and only big fucking map in the game thats a big open space "opening up." then yeah it does that closer to the end of the game.

I am pretty sure that's exactly what he was talking about, and I guess it would FEEL like it really opened up considering you were in a fucking tunnel for the whole rest of the game... and oh yeah, once you go past that you're back to tunnel city. Awesome.

Storywise its linear but many other ones have side quests and different locations to go to before you go on to the next place.

Dude X, X-2, and XII was linear as fuck too, I don't know what you're talking about and the only time its not linear is when you get an airship at the end of the game.

Well, there's actually plenty of places you can go in XII before you're told to in the story.
There's some where you can't though of course. If you want to mention VI then you MUST mention XII on that front because it's better about it than VI is.
