I don't think YOU understand the storyline. It's explained that the summoning of the final aeon takes the summoner's life and requires someone to become a fayth for the summoning (jecht was that fayth), the game also explains that the fayth are the mediums through which the summons are called. Those bodies in the 10 temples where you get your summons are the physical bodies of the various summons you get (Valefor, Bahamut, etc...)Jecht is the same thing for Sin.

All of this is explained thoroughly in the game. Qalbert is absolutely correct in saying that Jecht is just a battery for Sin.
