So i never played the first game... and by watching some of the streams I get the gist of the monster hunter strategy of combat. But anything I should know ahead of time to make my noob experience any easier? And can people invade any world they want or are there limitations?

I KNOW there are limitations, but exactly what those are is not perfectly clear just yet. With Demon's Souls for example, if you were in Soul Form you could not be invaded. With Dark Souls I THINK it is the same way. If you are Hollowed/Undead you may be free from invasion. The problem here is that while DS had no real penalty for running through the entire game in Soul Form... there are NPCs that won't talk to you and Covenants you can not get in DkS if you are Hollowed. At least that has been my understanding not having played myself. Online has been messed up for the majority of the JP release though. Only just now are people starting to invade/co-op so more info should be available by Weds. at the latest.

The Demon's souls wiki (and to an extent the Dark Souls Wiki) are good places for info. A lot has changed from one the other but there is still a lot of relevant info. I suppose without any knowledge of Demon's Souls though you wouldn't know what pertains and what doesn't. So perhaps just start at the barebones Dark Souls wiki for now. Check out stat explanations?

Something to keep in mind, Stats and Stat Progression are a very important part of PVP builds. PVE builds are MUCH more lenient. Currently there is just tons we don't know about weapons, vagrants, invading, etc... so PVP info is going to steadily come in over time. You have plenty of character slots though, so no reason not to try a bit of everything until you get a character you like. I don't know how you could NOT know and expect many many deaths as you come to terms with all that encompasses the game, so with that already known you are well past alot of other new players that don't know what they are in for.

You could just turn off the online aspect in Demons Souls if you didn't want to deal with invasions, you can probably do that here too. I'd keep it on so you get to experience the rest of the online, but it's always an option. Aside from that, there's level restrictions on who can invade you, so technically you should be able to kill anyone that tries to kill you.

As far as making the experience easier:

1. Be patient. That's probably the most important part of surviving in this game. Don't attack the boss until you get a handle of its attack pattern, don't stop to heal until you're safe (i.e. out of attack range), don't run away from enemies into areas you haven't explored yet, always be on the lookout for traps, etc.

2. Try out every option available to you. Often times hard encounters are made much easier by using the right type of weapon, spell or gear. If you're a melee character, it's generally a good idea to carry several different types of weapons with you. Last character I made in DeS always had 4~5 (usually a Rapier, an Axe, a Dagger, a Bow and a Katana). Situational stuff (like status/elemental resistance gear) that you can often ignore in other RPGs make a huge difference in this one.

It registers all the clicks, but either the bar takes a tremendous amount of clicks to move at all, or it's display is broken. It's definitely registering though, rank keeps changing. Clicked on everyone so far and will continue to click on anyone that posts, blah blah. I'm sure this is gonna end up being another sterling silver collector's item for whoever gets the most clicks.
