Dark Souls: Prepare to Die (PS3/360/PC)

beat it 3 times, not sure about how long, will try to remember to check later. haven't played in half a year now, but last time, I was grinding, to prepare for another playthrough working on weapons (I hate hate hate hate hate the 4-x lizards)

first play thru took k about 35 hours, every new play thru took about half that, but new game + about 25ish
best thing about the game tho was pvp, everything on the line everytime, sometimes its easy sometime you have epic hour long fights, was great
i always had a policy on pvp to only use healing when the other player does, it was alot of fun. also loved screwing peoples chances and being old monk, loved it

Well technically nothing was on the line if you invaded people. I was one of those jerks that killed myself in the nexus and left my souls at the top of the steps; even if someone defeats you when you invade someone it doesn't count as a death so the souls remain in the nexus.

I've had a bunch of awesome PvP, but the most exciting was when I was the boss in Tower of Latria.

As soon as I was warped into the arena I noticed that all the chairs were destroyed, I was like 'wtf is going on here.' Usually one has to wait a bit for the dude to get to the arena. Well it turns out there were three dudes ready to kick my ass. They all ganged up on me but I managed to roll away and was able to keep them at bay. I managed to kill one but this dude had the Scraping Spear, and next thing I know I wasn't dealing any damage and my armour was all broken. I couldn't use a grindstone because I didn't have it in the shortcut menu, and trying to use one from the main menu is a complete mess. After what it felt like an eternity one dude caught me w/ a backstab whilst rolling away, which was bs but w/e. It was fun.

I only started playing demon's souls about a month ago and have only had 1 pvp experience. A large portion of that is thanks to psn being down and me not wanting to invade cause I wanted Pure White character tendency. My 1 pvp experience was kinda stupid.
I was in 4-2, sitting at the start of the level near the vendor. I was sitting there kind of afk, doing stuff on my computer when I suddenly hear some noise. Black phantom guy was swinging at and near me, but didn't touch me. It looked like he was trying to hit me, but apparently didn't know how to lock-on or something. So then I hit him, he rolled pointlessly around, but still not actually dodging me and I killed him.
I'm gonna want to do a bunch of pvp once pvp is up as I haven't gotten a chance to invade people yet.

i rarely ever invaded people, i prefered being invaded, only time i really ever 'invaded' others was old monk(which i loved being). i was usuallly a helper monkey for others or would farm stuff and wait for people to invade

If you want good PVP invade area 4-1. 4-1 is the easiest place to find a pvp match because people who like to do them stand there at the beginning and wait to get invaded. In most cases they won't attack you as you warp in and they'll let you buff etc.

I noticed that actually. When i was playing the game and actually trying to beat it before i ever really got in to any PVP stuff I got invaded in 4-1 more times than every other level put together probably.

I see that someone mentioned the old monk and becoming the boss. I'm amazed no rage comic exists for that fight because I've fought against a group of 4 before and I managed to kill 2 of them as they killed me buuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttttttttt I had second chance. It seems like every time I have to fight the old monk the guy I'm fighting has second chance lol.

I was an idiot and sold the first game after playing through once. Thinking about it now, I really don't know why. The online system was really cool. Looking forward to this one a lot.

My greatest PVP moment was taking out a full room of phantoms in 1-3 but I don't really feel like typing it out again since I'm sure I've typed it on these boards already. 1-3 is fun as hell for trolling people.

Yeah i always used Ventrillo for Demon's Souls. For some reason my friends like using Vent more than the voice chats on consoles but for this i guess it would be good for playing with randoms. Even if they don't add it for ps3 im still leaning towards ps3 mainly because the first one was on ps3 so something about that makes me want the next one on the same console. It might not make sense but in my head it does. lol

But nah I wouldn't do that. I just played really stealthy by utilizing the environment to catch people off-guard. I'd only invade areas where I knew I could hide because I enjoyed getting into people's heads than trying to have a fair fight. I was really bad in 1-3 because a lot of people with phantoms would run to the beginning to try to find me and if I had enough time, I'd run straight to the far wagon in the first room with stealth rings, let them run past me, then run through the stage and pick people off one by one. I don't think most people realized that there are a lot of places to ambush people on that stage which is why it became my favorite invasion area. However, if they opened the huge gate that the guard gets crushed under, it's usually not worth it because it becomes a race to get to your target before they reach the boss or get jumped with no real point in trying to hide.

The one thing I really liked about 1-3 was waiting until they were just about the reach the long stairs leading to the boss before attacking, half the time they would just panic and roll into all the knights and archers and just get destroyed nearly instantly.

LOL. I tried that a few times but most people I faced were too smart to fall for it. Usually when I had to fight people up to that point, it was usually me playing lame as hell since my character would pretty much be fucked if I got knocked down once.

I just wish they implemented a game mode that was specifically for PvP. Like rather than invading and such you could set up isolated duels (or team vs team, FFA, etc) with set rules (no healing items, no magic, magic only, w/e). As reliable as 4-1 was for invading/getting invaded it would have been nice to have the option to choose your opponents and not have to wait around as well as be on equal footing by being able to both be in body form.

On more than a few occasions when I invaded/got invaded by someone and we had a particularly good fight what I'd like to do is message them and set up a rematch and I'd bring with me a handful of base, completely un-upgraded weapons and have us fight with those. It made for some really fun, drawn out fights.

As much fun as smashing shit with a cursed DBS was it was just too easy in general to kill people, tbh I think they should have tweaked the way damage was calculated for PvP. Something like halving it across the board and implementing a cool down timer to healing items would make fights a lot more interesting. Also balancing armor (damage reduction vs stamina penalty) so that 90% of it wasn't completely worthless would have been nice.

Demon's Souls is one of my favorite games that's come out the last few years. I like how you can just pick it up and keep playing. I'm on NG+++ on my main character and it's still tons of fun. Playing through Boletaria Palace never gets old. Can't wait for this game, hopefully it's even better.
