WAIT, there's more. also, since his head was fucked from the weapon x trials, he realizes that the claws were natural to him, and not from the adamantium, which leads him on this search for his past... then he became james howlett, and God was pleased.

Wasn't it that he's healing factor was greatly reduced by the Adamantium because of metal poisoning in the body? Kind of the same thing with Deadpool and cancer?

And having the metal ripped from his body was too much too handle and he did die there too? People are making it out like Wolverine is some sort of super god.

not so much poisoning, as his body never got used to it being there and kept treating it like a sickness. Wade, on the other hand, was GIVEN the cancer to counteract how powerful his healing factor is, which is why he's half retarded and his face is so fucked up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fanboy with Wolverine. I loved his series right after his metal was ripped out. One of the reasons I loved his cameo in first class. Dude is old as fuck, but it's barely hinted at in the movies about the same as his martial arts.

Anyone miss seeing him like this though?

It was later explained that metal poisoning is exactly what the adamantium is doing to him, which is why his healing went into overdrive when it was removed. Apparently, Wolverine and Sabretooth's regenerative abilities are what made them uniquely suited to the adamantium bonding process (the whole in this theory is Cyber; adamantium-skinned with an otherwise unremarkable healing factor).

He didn't die, but he came awful close. In the aftermath of the trauma, he almost died because his regeneration nearly exhausted itself trying to repair the damage (which had to have left him without a skeleton basically--the adamantium was bonded to him at a molecular level). A later story involving Cable's son saw Wolverine almost getting a new adamantium skeleton, but instead forcefully rejected it. This seemed to have less life-threatening results, but reduced him to an atavistic, pre-human state.

He's become a near-unkillable super-god, but that's mostly the result of 50 years of power creep; writers have steadily been increasing the damage his healing can take since about the 70's. Before then, a mile-high fall or a super-heated death ray liquefying his brain would have been enough to kill him. These days, there's not much can end Wolverine short of throwing him into the sun or turning off his healing.

A short arc in Wolverine's title tried to resolve this: apparently, every time Wolverine receives what should be a fatal wound, he duels the angel of death for the right to live again. Since he's been doing this for nearly two centuries, the imbalance of his continual refusal of death has somehow made him progressively harder to kill, but each time, his metaphysical duel with the angel of death gets harder to win (meaning at some point, he'd lose and die a final time). The end of the story saw him making some kind of peace with the angel of death, supposedly "resetting" his regeneration back to it's original super-human levels.

Buuut most writers have pretty much ignored that entire story and do what they want with Wolverine's healing. So, he's still sort-of immortal.

He cannot die, he has regenerated from a drop of blood. That is some OP shit.

Allowing his fight scenes to be more fleshed out is one step in the right direction that this movie will NEED to take in order not to prove fanboys right and say no one can make live action comic movies quite like Marvel. Why is that so important? It's because it'll be more accurate to his character portrayed in comics for the past 38 years. Take The Amazing Spider-Man for example, a movie done by Sony not Marvel, allowed audiences to see some fight scenes that were ripped straight from the comics and your average non-hardcore and hardcore comic fans alike responded quite well.

    Accuracy is important.

Comics in a nutshell. Especially the non-creator-owned titles.

Director James Mangold recently talked to MTV about his highly anticipated new film, The Wolverine. Like many of you, I'm hoping that this ends up being the best vision of Wolverine so far. Mangold discusses the tone of the film revealing they'll be going "a little darker and a little deeper," the Japanese setting and influence, and when we can expect to see the first trailer of the film.

    On Japanese influence:

There is a significant amount of Japanese spoken in the movie, and the cast is almost entirely Japanese. So there is this wonderful sense of cross-pollination between a very Western character and a far Eastern culture, and I think it's very cool and something we haven't seen so far. I think there is a lot of ways that Japanese film, Japanese fighting, Japanese martial arts have had an effect on this movie. And certainly the movie is dripping with Japanese tradition both cinematically, fighting-wise and philosophically as well.
On Logan's new haircut and separation from the previous movies:

We've given Logan a new haircut, a shorter haircut that I think is a more handsome haircut. The wonderful opportunity for me with this film is that 90 percent of it takes place in Japan, and even though other elements remain constant from the other pictures, namely Hugh Jackman, we kind of got our chance to reboot the tone and go a little darker and a little deeper than they've gone before with this character. That was exciting for me.
On Berserker rage and the violence:

The whole point is not about violence or rating; it's about intensity. I wanted to make a film that in a way captures the intensity of his character. One of the things that has always been a feature of Wolverine in the comics is that he has a berserker rage, that he has anger and some of his abilities are driven by something more primal. Honestly, to get really pissed off — not cute pissed off, not quippy pissed off, not funny pissed off or cigar-chomping pissed off, just pissed off — that can then help drive the fighting, drive the combat. That is interesting for me and then for the character, some of the jet fuel underneath some of the combat in the film.
That all sounds pretty awesome, but I'm sure you're all wondering when we're going to see a trailer that gives us our first real taste of what this movie is going to be like! It sounds like when it is released it's going to just tease us.

I think you always want to put your best foot forward. For me, I'm not the marketing department of Fox, but for my own tastes, less is more. You have a character that's a bit of a given, you know this guy. Hugh is so good in this role. My point of view is 'save as much as you can,' but we will be lifting our skirt and offering a peek or two, certainly in the months to come.

The old man Wolverine saved in WWII is really a villain! He wants his healing factor to be young again!

I sussed this out just from the trailer.
