I hope they're not talking about making Wolverine a martial arts kinda guy, I've never seen him as such before...

I wish they could just delete the first X-men trilogy and rebuild it. Marginalizing, re-characterizing, and killing important characters left a pretty bad taste in my mouth, with Cyclops being the main example. Making him a total emo pussy who got killed 10 min into the third movie is inexcusable when he is one of the most powerful and intelligent mutants in other media.
He's participated in at least two major wars, most all of the minor, was trained as a sort-of Samurai and considers Japan a second home, and was employed by both Canadian and US intelligence agencies.
He may not be Iron Fist, but Wolverine better damn well show off at least some martial expertise in this movie.
But he's not a ninja (like Bruce Wayne in Dark Knight) or a super spy (like Bourne). He is still a fairly rough, physical aggressive fighter. The focus needs to be on power and feral qualities, not martial arts moves. They may be going for exactly that, and I hope that's the case.
Master Martial Artist: Due to his extensive training as a soldier, a CIA operative, a samurai and a member of the X-Men, Logan is an exceptional martial artist and has mastered all areas of combat including hand-to-hand and various weapons. His extraordinary hand-to-hand combat ability makes him one of the finest combatants on Earth.

Ehh...even still, his normal fighting style isn't ninja, it's more feral, and even if it's going to be samurai for this film, that's different from ninja, which is what Bourne/Dark Knight essentially was. I don't want to see ninja wolverine. He is a great fighter, he damn well better be because that's his only way of winning a fight, but his style isn't ninja.
Listen fuckfaces! Idc how much training he had over the past 100 years of military and x-men service! He's a fucking drunken street fighter and thats that!
By ninja they probably mean stealth, which he is known to use. He can't alwyas go claws blazing.
If anyone has read any Uncanny X-Force you'll know that he utilizes stealth and silent kills quite often. Debate all you want, but he's basically an indestructible ninja with 6 katanas attached to his hands. I will not be surprised in the least if they show some of that in this movie.
Wolverine's gone ninja penty of times: one of his most famous stories (Frank Miller's mini-series) saw him infiltrating a Japanese castle shinobi style before going head-to-head with a Yakuza boss in a duel amongst Samurais. He infiltrated the Baxter Building, Xavier's Mansion, and S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier in the "Enemy of the State" story, and as Blackice mentioned, he more recently and regularly engaged in covert black ops in Uncanny X-Force.
He ain't all "RAAARRGH SLASHY SLASHY BERSERKER RAGE," Wolverine's most compelling stories are when he walks a line between man and beast.
Agreed. If you actually read his comics, decent amount of times... he goes after the bad guys ala "Silent prowl then silent kill" type . He may be able to go berserk, and has plenty of times... but if Logan wants to move silently and kill without making a sound or noise, he certainly can.
That reminds me of another thing the previous films side-lined: Logan's talent for tracking; he's a natural born hunter.
It'd be great to see him stalking some hoes across three continents.
...not what I was getting at. He can use stealth like a ninja, that's actually a "feral" technique, especially with his enhanced senses. What I mean is the hand-to-hand combat. I don't want to see him being Jason Bourne, I want Wolverine, and they don't have the same fighting styles. I've seen wolverine "stalk his prey" and that fits his character, I mean specifically the 90%-of-movements-are-just-blocking-the-others-attack fighting style isn't how I see Wolverine fighting.
I know you want Logan to be all feral and animal like but you're simply overlooking long standing facts in the Marvel Universe. He's an expert martial artist, has trained under numerous people and organizations. Also, he's gone toe-toe with Iron Fist who is supposed to be Marvel's #1 martial arts guy and Logan has held his own many many times. I'm not saying we need to open a Iron Fist vs Wolverine discussion, but what I am saying is that he's no slouch in the hand-to-hand combat area.
Here's an example of the latest IF vs Logan match, yes this is just sparring but you can still see that Logan isn't just some badass street brawler with thick bones and a pair of claws.

spidey's such a retard, lol
Not gonna lie, I spit my mountain dew onto my monitor after reading the "Five fingers of death !"
I'm not saying Wolverine isn't an expert martial artist, or great at hand-to-hand, that's his entire offense, so he's great at it. What I'm saying is that his STYLE is not typically the ninja/martial artsy one. He has adamantium claws as both offense and defense and he uses them, that changes the entire dynamic. Iirc, he would have learned all that other fighting before his adamantium, right? Because he had quite some time fighting and in wars before that procedure was performed for/on him. He's NOT a slouch fighter, he is one of the best, but he does not typically fight like Bourne/Batman, so I don't want "Jason Bourne has claws" as a movie. I want a Wolverine movie first, not a copy of Bourne/Batman fighting sequences.
There is also a lot more hitting than dodging going on in those comic strips than a Bourne fight. Or maybe I'm just misremembering Bourne fights and thinking of Jet Li or something as fight scenes.
i think you should stop while you're behind.
