Unless something has changed, Diablo III won't be competing in the MMO market. Diablo III's competition is something more like Borderlands, or maybe Castle Crashers.

The game still has a long ways to go but I wouldn't say it's terrible. The only real issue I've noticed outside of the lack of content is finding a group to EXP with. Since hardly anyone uses the recruit system and most shouts for groups are for leves only.
It's "playable", there just isn't a lot to play with.
There are many good games coming out soon, there is no reason to play this over them.
Is there some reason you can't play many games at once? I'm confused.
What specifically do you mean by fundamentals? I feel the game is fundamentally the same but some of the fundamentals to systems have been changed. For example, how SP is generated from mobs, how leve-linking works to increase gains, or how rapid synthesis was nerfed.
I see whatcha mean though. It's just a little vague.
We do have a nice and shiny (albeit slightly confusing) update chart to look at however.
If XIV was a twitter account or a blog instead of a game, I'd advise you to become a follower. Doesn't cost you any money and takes little time, yet it can prove to be entertaining once in a while.
If you quit because leveling was too random/slow, because getting new gear was annoying, or because menus were laggy: it's alright to come back.
If you quit for any other reason not included above... then probably not.
Unless I'm forgetting about other major changes.
Had Final Fantasy XIV launched well, and didn't suck. It would still have less than a fighting chance in hell, against Diablo III.
There are more people playing Diablo II than there are people playing XIV.
I agree. And still, it would have definitely lost to Gran Turismo 5 and even if it survived FFXIII-2 would have sealed the deal even before D3.
Not to mention the Dark Knight sequel is supposedly coming to theaters in 2012, as well as the last Wheel of Time novel. No matter how many patches and expansions they put out it would make no difference against those titans.

are the reason this section continues to be crap. Not only is it in that post in the wrong topic, it's also been said about 100 times. We get it you--you don't like ffxiv and want to protect others from playing this shitty game. Cool story bro!
You might as well have just posted "+1". Same effect.
lolwhiteknight. Nice try though.
edit: come on dude, if you've read any of my posts, I've slammed this game as much as the next guy. I am making an argument on principal here. If you really think Diablo III has anything to do with coming back to FFXIV or not, you should get your head checked. It is off-topic. That's all I'm saying.
