There can(and likely will) be a season even if they don't agree on a new CBA by the deadline.

They are both trying to use the deadline as leverage to get what they want. Once it passes, a new CBA will be reached I imagine. April-May ish

The problem is the players don't really have any leverage. But yes I think a deal will get done after the deadline.

I hope so. From everything I'm hearing it sounds like the owners want to cut into the players % of gross revenue, basically for no good reason. I think they are to the point where it's highly unlikely to get done by March, but I think the owners are smart enough to realize the amount of money they stand to lose if there is no season next year. Which, to me at least, is why the NFLPA isn't bothering listening to the owners right now.

I think a deal will definitely get done by mid-april, before the draft (hoping, at least)

Yea, no way there's not a season next year. CBA will get done but better sooner than later to put an end to all these charades.

With Jerry Richardson on the board though, I'm not holding my breath. He has a tendency to stick with something until the very end, when it's way passed its prime...

The owners can still weather the lack of a season better than the players(hence why it is a lockout and not a strike). The owners still get money from TV contracts. Players last an average of around 3 years in the league, losing a year from your prime and the paychecks that come with it hurts.

The owners want to reduce the player's share of revenues, and understandably the players are reluctant to do this without seeing the owners' books, which they refuse to do.

I saw something in passing on sportscenter during lunch today and for each month there isnt a new deal in place roughly a collective 300 million dollars are lost, thats obviously including march and on. So if an agreement isnt made by May both parties will have lost that extra billion the owners want.

Granted this whole situation should be a little give and take, I'm not sure who said it but this whole situation on part of the owners isnt just for nothing, owners for the last few years have been eating operating loss and seeing no profits at all. The example I saw used was the packers, they lost a couple million dollars last year in profits from operations alone.

If that is the case, I don't understand why the owners don't open their books and prove it. It would put public opinion on their side.

They didn't have a loss, but yes their income has decreased in the last few years.

I have a feeling that the other owners don't open their books and use the Packers as the example (other than that those books have to be open) is that the Packers are one of the worst-case scenarios, and most teams are doing just fine.
