I think we should just keep religion because in the future when medicine is perfected and nearly no one dies because of sickness, we have to have some sort of population control.

Well, if the boy didn't die, the other seven children wouldn't be getting medical care now. So....JESUS SAVED THE SEVEN CHILDREN!!

10 years' probation is a fitting punishment for ignorance, religious or otherwise, given that there are still 7 more kids to be raised. Sucks that a kid died though.

i dont think it is "fitting punishment"

they are being let off easy because its "RELIGION", with the way things are today, if they would have pushed harder, they would have been labeld radical muslims or god hating atheists

im sorry, but they LET their son die, they knew there was a guaranteed way to fix his ailments, but instead they chose the "i hope he gets better" way, they should lose their other kids as they have proven that they are not capable parents, a capable parent would do whatever it takes to make sure their kids are healthy, they did not

You have to take emotion out of it and see that the probation is actually a fitting punishment.

One of their children is dead, only the most batshit crazy person would be able to get over the grief of that, I know it would be something I'd never get over.
Secondly, having all those other children, if they lock up the parents... boom, now you got 7 minors that became wards of the state. Means foster homes, etc. It's very rare that 3 brother and sisters end up staying together forget 7. By giving parents probation it at least allows the other 7 children a shot at a normal life.

Jail time for both parents punishes 9 people because of the stupidity of 2 of them. Hence a common sense, "fitting punishment".

ages 1 to 15, to be examined by a doctor in the next month, to make follow-up visits, and to immediately follow a doctor’s advice on medical care for the children
If those kids see a competent physician, he will file paperwork that advises the parents to go to an emergency room if certain illnesses pop up. OR maybe he'll just hand them a copy of 'Parenting for Dummies'.

classic example of selection bias. you are all forgetting the countless times that prayer has worked.

the other 7 children got faith-healed just fine. stop making such a big deal over the one time it didn't.

This post, and the common sense herein, will be completely passed over by the next 10 pages of religion bashing, because it's just oh-so-fun to laugh at.

One argument for taking the kids away is for their own safety. Do we have any good reason to think they wouldn't do this again if another kid got sick? Perhaps a situation resulting in the kids being taken from their parents is not (overall) a bad thing?

How about you let the parents raise their kids as they see fit?? Do you think that it had zero effect on them that their child died. I think many of you are mistaking their belief and faith in god for negligence and apathy. They lost their fucking child. HELLO.

This is the same kind of shit that keeps people from spanking their kids anymore and look where that's gotten us.... 7 year old doin hood rat thing with their friends that smokes wit cigarettes.

rather than take responsibility for what happened to their child, they are placing blame 100% on god

i have no qualms with taking their children for their own benefit
