This generally doesn't agree with observed counter rates.
I've always known the general consensus to be:
Counter trait +10
With CS it becomes +50 (call CS +40 or just increasing the base rate to 50, can't have CS without the trait so it's irrelevant)
Traits +5
AF2 feet +10
This was all standard issue for MNK at 75 and would give a counter value of 65, with this setup and capped acc most observed counter rates were in the upper 50s low 60s giving heed to it's accuracy (65*.95 = 61.xx).
Rate's will often be reported as slightly lower due to human error (not facing the mob immediately, not reactivating JA immediately, not having capped acc all the time due to differing mobs/buffs/debuffs) but when tested with attention to detail it's been more accurate.
I know there's been speculation about an updated counter trait (seriously SE why can't you just add I/II/III/etc at the end of traits in the menu? damn) but I don't know if it's been thoroughly tested.
I used to have lots of parses I did from salvage but they were just to gauge my food choice, would have helped but I can't find them, probably didn't save them since they were just personal evaluations.
Numbers they got there don't sit right with my parses either, but that's pretty old parses and I have no clue what my sample size was (think it was 1-2 hours of exping) and are like you say in the upper 50% range. I don't know what tests JP's did for the Stance reported on their wiki, but they seem right about the counter trait buff so maybe this too. If somebody wants to verify the counter trait buff, go ahead, I'm not doing another 10 hour parse lol.
As for the counter trait test they did, it's in the relic augment topic on this forum, somebody got it from a JP site
http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/907...=1#post4431639someJP's tests.
counter merits=+5
Lv85 (95%acc) (if100%acc)
1395/5293 = 26.36% → 27.74%
Lv90
1232/4517 = 27.27% → 28.71%
MNK gets counterxxxx@Lv81, it's 12%.
12+12+5=29%. I think Enhances Counter IV is 12%.
Lv75 with counter merits+5 95% 100%
no weapon :639/4843 = 13.19% → 13.89%
Lv85
no weapon :852/5281 = 16.13% → 16.98%
job trait got 3% boost.
Getting a stance number should be as quick as figuring out the counter cap though. Especially since it concerns a 10% difference between what we assume and what the JP's assume with relic shoes, but ya, can't test atm XD
The only test I was able to find was Almalexia's on Alla for Melee Gaiters, the one you mentioned with the 2 counter merits. He posted a 10% difference on a small sample size. It was enough to conclude that the shoes boosted counterstance counter rate (as opposed to some apparent old theories, such giving accuracy bonus to counter), but the numbers were too small to confirm that 10% was actually accurate. Unless its buried somewhere in someone's archives, I don't know that anyone posting in english ever did another test, it appears that the +10 just got taken as the number.
The JP wiki info has 5 for Melee Gaiters, but since that test was probably in Japanese, and I can't read it, I won't ever find the test.
Don't have Black Belt yet and was wondering if Flame Belt was a viable substitute for MNK until I get said Black Belt? Also, is it possible to counterstance tank Killakriq while duoboxing a WHM?
Edit: Nevermind, didn't realize I responded to a post on page 1 =X
I remember monks taking Almalexia's info and cross-checking it with their own parses, which seemed to confirm the 10%. I did the same, but I don't have those parses anymore. I only remember that they were 55%+ counterrate, that was with full counter merits and relic shoes when popping stance, but ya small sample, shit to test for tuesday I guess =D
Could someone tell me if CDC is affected by Light Gorget, I'm confused because Tachi: Fudo shows the exact same sc properties and is listed on both Snow Gorget as well as Light however CDC is only listed on Snow.
Lets see... let me find my copy... where to begin... (long post ahead)
They recommend war/pld, war/whm, a section on "why warriors love enmity" and another on "why should I have to die? Next its mnk/drk, mnk/rdm. After that its Whm, which gets Dia3 at lvl 69, using whm/brd. For Blm there's a section on "what spells to cast", and to use blm/smn. Rdm gets Dia3 at 61, Cure5 at 73, and doesn't get Fire/Blizzard/Thunder3 at all, suggest rdm/smn, and rdm/war. Thf is actually not as bad, except for the questionable thf/mnk, and thf/rng. Now for Pld, they suggest pld/whm, and pld/drk. For Drk job combos are actually "normal", but there is a section on "spending time as a blm". For Bst its bst/pld and bst/brd, and a section on "why bst's solo". Nothing much list for Rng besides rng/thf and the first sentence explaining it is "Rangers in theory make very good pullers, but that is often left to the wayside". Brd's turn, section on "do i need an instrument?" and using brd/thf. Now for Smn, no bp's listed for over lvl 50, and to use smn/blm, and smn/brd. Sam has a section of "because of low Agi, avoid monsters that cause damage too quickly". Nin gets jubaku Ni at lvl 55, and to use nin/rdm, and nin/sam and that nin is a "hard sell to use as a sj". Drg doesn't have much either but under drg/whm there's "Dragoons aren't as effective as black mages, but they have enough spirit to make passable white mages". Not to mention all the ridiculous macros they have/had for each job... and thats just 60 pages out of a 381 page book.
Thought about posting this in the what's better thread but it's more of a question of why than which is better. Anyway, Most sets i see for mnks use tantra +2 body over loki's. However, every time i see someone ask which atma set is better it's RR/GH/Apoc lately. So my question is, does Tantra+2's 12 str and 15(21) attack outdo loki's 5% crit damage by a lot? If so i'm not gonna even bother trying to get loki's kaftan.
Af3+2 body augment to impetus is sick, and >lokis
I think it's because of the Aug. to Impetus. Use Loki's when Impetus is down.
Don't forget the ehances martial arts trait as well.
great, thanks. definatelly will get both. Thanks for the info
Okay setting up a potency nuke set for Heavenly Strike and need some input.
As far as a BiS list this is what I have come up with outside of using relics/mythics or something horribly hard to obtain tell me what you think...
http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/205996
Now there is no other ring that will help so I left it blank, same goes for ammo. The real question I am trying to figure out is what to use on the neck and I have it down to 3 choices...
Spoiler: show
Now I am pretty sure(but you know how some items can be) that the Torque won't help for a magic based attack and wiki has no info on it. The other 2 choices is really down to which is better, 9 skill or 3 MAB?
Also how does it look overall? Did I miss anything good or is it pretty solid nuke set?
Set looks fine, only improvement would be a pet MAB +2 cape from ACP chest, highly luck based though. Eidolon over Caller's. Skill only helps MAcc, which you'll never need. Sac torque won't help magic, correct.
