What is the best food for leveling up DNC from 1-30? When I get to a point where I can, should I start killing pets for xp or stick with the floating book missions(idk what they are really called)? What should I sub from 1-30?

Grilled Hare at very low levels -> Dhalmel Steak in the teens and twenties. Use swords or H2H and just do Field Manual missions from 1-30. At very low levels, sub White Mage or something. Once you get Curing Waltz, sub something else.

I liked Beastmaster as a sub from the high-20s to mid-50s (and then I partied to 75 and Abyssea'd to 90). You'll find that you're infinitely durable on Dancer after Curing Waltz, but your damage sucks. Pulling another DC along to beat up EPs with you makes the FoVs fly by. I wasn't on a particularly tight schedule, so I only killed things with FoV Ops active and just engaged the book to keep my food/buffs between Ops. If you time it right, you can do three FoV ops in a row (get one at the end of a day, do it and get another one around noon of the next day, do it and get one just at day change, go do something else).

@Maksudyst - Probably low, though I doubt anyone here will actually know. I've personally only gotten one Atma without proccing Red !!. I'd guess 5% drop rate.

Probably Jack-o'-lanterns. Accuracy is so awful at low levels.
Given how long it takes to get to a beastmen pet camp, I'm tempted to say it's not worth it. Only do the Fields of Valor pages when you're near a book.
Sub whatever from 1-10. A lot of people recommend /PUP for lower levels since the automaton is the ender of worlds, or something. Starting at 15, I subbed BST. This will only work if you have BST leveled as charm accuracy is based on the level of your BST. If you can, Maze of Shakrami makes 15-20 amazingly fun /BST.

Playing for five years, you must have known the answers to all of those questions.

If used during a time when the trigger won't cause a stagger, such as casting or TP move, yes it can.
My first Shinryu, our THF used Cyclone and got wind message (during one of its attacks). Three clean Jinpus didn't proc. THF did Cyclone again and got red.

I've never obtained an atma without Red triggered. Apparently it can happen, but you'll run out of cruor long before it does. Bring a standard Shinryu set up along with jobs for red (MNK, WHM, WHM, WAR, NIN, something) and you'll get it on the first try.

What the guy replied with the gearset is correct, but I just want to correct it on atma. Smoldering or Lone Wolf / Hell's Guardian / Ultimate is the best. Not by much, and second fire affinity atma is still a good alternative for people who haven't killed PW. Smoldering / Lone Wolf / Griffon's Claw is best while brewing.

Depends on your total AGI and MAB, the value changes. Generally if you keep it balanced, you will get 2 AGI > 1 MAB > 1 AGI. If you can get AGI doubles the MAB number, take it, but never pick an AGI of equal or less than MAB. This is true even with double MAB atma, you need over +150 MAB or so (forgot the number) to get 1 MAB < 1 AGI.

Not sure if anyone have tested this or not, but WSDMG from anwig salade and griffon claw stack as a same term. I've been trying to figure out the flooring order of magical ws damage from scratch, but it wasn't complete yet, here's what I have confirmed 100%:
base ws damage * quickdraw * staff * affinity * mab/mdb * wsdmg
I'll PM the test result to someone when it's complete, just need resist/dayweather/mdt order

Recent update makes this information obsolete, for the better. For exp rewards you can now start a new FoV as soon as you've completed one - the once per game day limit only applies for gil/tab rewards. So as a levelling method, it's far better now than it previously was. You can blast through lowbie jobs using it.

Your THF did something wrong then, plain and simple. Since the inception of Discernment, we've never had a target spell/WS proc a message when its usage wasnt clean.

Another question about abyssea lights:
I have managed to get pearl lights out of ephmeral clionid in La theine plateu by having it die from DoT. I tried this same on eph. murex in misareux and it gave me azure instead.
How does the light from DoTs work? Anybody know the specifics of it?

If the killing DoT is from Bio, it will result in pearl and if the mob dies from e.g. Burn, it will give azure? Yes/no?

If you're scrounging for maybe 10 mp/minute tops instead of focusing on your HP healed, you might as well wear Conserve MP on the cast.

nin can do raiden if they suck less, and whm can do sunburst. I think the WS's you're looking for are SoD and Freezebite in a nin+whm duo.

idk what to tell you then. I can get everyone I do abyssea with to attest to this. We've always used the messages as notices that a spell/ws isnt the trigger and we have yet to fail to proc anything using this system.

for grellow we spam stone/water/dia to get weakness, then cycle through the necessary spells announcing each if each spell casted registered a message or no message. If someone announces they got message, we stop using that spell to try to proc !!.

For red we spam our elemental WS's, discern what element it is, and then keep churning out the possible WS's announcing if we get message or not. If someone says they got a msg from that WS, we stop using it (this mostly applies to light/dark).

This hasnt failed our group, so I really have no idea what to tell you.

Someone not having a previously useless event item is sucking more? I wouldn't fault any nin for not having a pitchfork to proc red with.

Your experience sounds anecdotal at best and I wouldn't put stock into an answer to the question either way without actually testing it under more controlled/strict conditions given these conflicting reports.

Well I didn't get an answer about dex to aim for, I've got about 138 total for my smite outside abyssea set, that should be enough for most anything right? I think colibri were like 114 or something to cap and stats haven't gone up that much iirc, but I haven't seen anyone talk about it much since loloutside abyssea content.

Have to agree with Nynja, I've always gone by the rule that if I get a message on the spell/ws then it isn't the correct spell/ws to trigger !! and that system has never failed me. If someone can post a pic to prove discernment can proc on the !! ws/spell then ill shut up but until then I call bullshit.

Yup, the "BG Elite" dismissed it because "SE doesnt use patterns you're seeing things", and yet, here we are...with a clear as day pattern, and when that information came out, they started backpedaling saying "well that wasn't exactly what you said so shut up kill yourself", because an initial observation was clearly my factual proof of how grellow worked.

as far as anecdotal experience, or whatever the fuck you're going on about here, having gone through 9 Empryian weapons and so much AF3+2 items that were trashing them to mules mannequins, I've been through enough experiences to say that the !! spell/ws will not load up a discernment message, ever. There have been plenty of times where we've gone through all our spells for grellow, had everyone check their logs for messages, "well, I didnt get msg on XXX, but I'm sure it was clean, I saw 3 other ppl cast it too"...and low and behold, that spell that "looked clean but no message and was casted 3 other times" was the trigger.


I'm willing to bet this is falling back to original grellow days..."My Heqet was weak to Thunder3 on Watersday I swear to god it was no other spell, it was Thunder 3, definitely Thunder 3".

Just go straight dd atmas. Its basically a race. Everytime he does his tp move it gets stronger to the point it will one shot you no matter what your wearing. So just kill as fast as possible without feeding it much tp. So auspice and what not.
