    Blogging question/suggestions/help

    Greetings,

I don't know if tech is the right section for this, but oh well.

I want start a blog to record my and my friends' time playing Tera. I wish I had done this for FFXI because I think it would be fun to look back and see all that we did (hence why I am going to do it this time.)

Anyway, Ive never done any sort of blogging so what is the 'best' or 'more preffered' site to do this? (if there is one). I want a simple layout where I can post pics/videos and recount the activities of our playtime. I don't need a lot of fluff or traffic and I am really just doing this for myself and my friends.

    Any suggestions/tips are welcome. Thanks!

Just to throw out some suggestions for things to look at: tumblr's popular for blogging now and something similar to that called Posterous which seem more geared towards twitter-like, short, frequent image-based posts as opposed to traditional journals; livejournal's pretty plain and straight-forward, but has a huge network, likely with related blogs/journals to whatever you're writing about; blogger and wordpress are traditional blogging platforms, and if you're willing to put in work towards it I'd say Wordpress would produce a nicer end-result; lastly there's Squarespace which is a really nice custom site-building platform with lots of templates for you to start from or adapt to your own blog right away, but is also paid subscription service.

It all depends on what you are looking to do. If the majority of your posts will be quick and you want to post screenshots of achievements and such, I'd suggest Tumblr. However, if you are looking to do longer posts, Livejoural/Blogger/Wordpress would be the way to go.

My personal preference in blogging is Wordpress, but that is because I enjoy the customization it can offer along with its blogging features. It does take some work to build a good Wordpress site, but it is definitely worth it if you want to put the time into it.

Wordpress all the way in my opinion. With specific templates you can easily turn it into an image blog with a short post.

I started one for FF14. It died on the 2nd day haha.

Now I'm working one based around on: stuff I think is awesome (games, movies, characters/moments), my own guides for life (travel, living, university), nostalgic stuff, guilty pleasures, and random stuff like "news" and the like. This was along with the FF14 merged into the same, but as I said, it died.

Thanks guys, I looked around at the suggestions Caiyuo gave last night and I too came to the conclusion that Livejoural/Blogger/Wordpress are going to be the most useful for my needs. Basically I imagine myself posting a recap of what we did during our game session along with half a dozen pics and a video maybe (pretty standard fair I'd imagine). Can't say how long the posts will be yet as I figure that will vary based off what we have accomplished each session.

Wordpress is fantastic. I've used it for years for any project that requires a blog. Its set up nearly perfectly for search engines, and if you produce interesting enough content and people show up, integrating some money making system into your blog is basically effortless and you can start pulling a profit just off posting things you do in a game.
