guess we'll try for clarity here since 1) I think GD is for faggots anyways and B) don't feel like pissing isla off

    - I agree with your point that US foreign policy is not the same thing as US popular opinion.

    - You make a distinction between US government and US people. I do not, in the same manner that when the Chicago Blackhawks are sucking it up in the middle of the game I'll say 'we' need to play better. I make myself a part by placing a vested interest, regardless of if it's anything real or not. If you're just bitching that I'm acting like I have something to do with something I don't directly, that's you being a dick over semantics, lol.

    - People who the US pisses off with poor foreign policy, similar to me, do not make a distinction between US government and US people.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

It sounded like you were resentful that people were angry at americans when americans per se don't decide american foreign policy.

Not resentful, I just found it amusing that the media was even bringing up WHAT IS AMERICA GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS when America was somewhat blamed for previously supporting Mubarak while also being thrown under the bus by Suleiman. The only feasible course of action for the US government is to stick with their 'we support the military/democracy' statement and they aren't in a position to do anything besides some sort of mostly-meaningless gesture of saying who they do or do not 'support'.

However, I did think that trying to call me out for semantics because I consider myself a part of the country I live in regardless of whether or not I have any semblance of influence over foreign policy is kinda dumb, affects that trickle down from major changes in world political climates still hit the average citizen.

Fair enough, but a few things:

1- Yea, when people say that 'america needs to do something' they usually mean the government, but at the same time there is a tendency to confuse the citizenry with its government. So for example, someone who hates what the US government did to them, might extrapolate that into hating americans in general. It's a real conceptual problem.

    2. Semantics refers to the meaning of words, we're talking about identity and public diplomacy.

3- Or at least i'm talking about identity and public diplomacy. I assume you say semantics because you're aware that you literally have nothing to do with american foreigh policy outside of perhaps being complacent, but you still use "we" because of the confusing thing you said here:

I consider myself a part of the country I live in regardless of whether or not I have any semblance of influence over foreign policy is kinda dumb
Because it seems you just used country as if it meant the same thing as government.

Yeah pretty much that. US Government = America = me.

At least in terms of how I speak, hence 'semantics'.
