    Internet Explorer 9 RC

I didn't see a thread for it so started a new one....

You can download the Release Candidate by going to this link: http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/

I must admit that it's such a blatant ripoff of Google Chrome but the execution is so slick that we'll just have to let it slide. Go over to the random image thread while using the browser and scroll down for a smooth Mac-like experience.

i've been using IE9 for awhile and although i wasn't a fan of IE before this version, it's all i've been using on my home system. then again i like FF4beta which i use at work. so maybe i just like everything new.

However, there seems to be nothing so great about the SP1 update since Microsoft has already made it clear that SP1 won’t contain any new features for the OS. It is mainly composed of security patches and some non-security fixes. Many of these updates are already issued through Windows Update.

Really excited about IE9, now if only people weren't using old versions of IE still. IE gets a bad rap for faggots using old versions and not upgrading.

It's much more stable than the Firefox 4 Beta is. FF4 constantly memory leaks. I can't compare it to Chrome but Chrome is a good browser, I'd say they're nearly identical as far as user experience goes, IE9 definitely took notes from a lot of what Chrome did to the browser game.

IE has always been faster, and taken up less memory compared to FF; I cant say vs Chrome cuse it just looks like poopy. Who cares if it has noscript or not? Learn how to navigate websites, and have a virus scanner installed. Ive been using IE my whole life, and the only time ive ever gotten a virus was 10 years ago when I was using skriptkiddie tools, which has no relevence at all.

Haters gonna hate on superior browser.

lol. I can get up, make a sandwhich and get back to my pc in the time it takes IE to load a page. Firefox is easily 2-3x faster than IE7. Can't say about 8, since i never used it. You're retarded if you really think IE has always been faster.

Right, because it's definitely not easier to avoid getting a virus in the first place than it is to hope your AV catches it when you get it, and even then, possibly have to go through all kinds of bullshit to get rid of it.

Also, IE has always completely fucking ignored web standards. Here's a rather hilarious demonstration of just how badly IE8 was with this.

Your hate of past versions of IE is founded, your hate for IE9 is not. IE9 is a modern browser. Nobody 'switches' to IE though, the big deal is that hopefully more and more people will be using IE9. This is particularly good for web developers because now that browsers are beginning to behave similarly and we are converging on specifications, web development has really boomed. The people who will be using IE9 are hopefully the people who do not know what a browser is, the people who think the Internet Explorer icon is the internet, I want those people using IE9 because it's a great browser and it's what will be the default and used browser for a large majority of the web community given time. Future versions of IE will only improve now that they've complied with some relatively standard browser standards as evidenced by the numerous similarities it has with Chrome and Firefox.

What? I haven't said anything about IE9. So far i've used it once, for about 5 minutes. I saw no obvious problems. And from what i've read, it's a pretty fucking amazing improvement over 8. I will not be using it, largely because of firefox's extensive library of addons making it far more useful (particularly noscript is nonnegotiable for me, and a number of others are incredibly useful). I am absolutely glad that the default browser that most people use will no longer be a useless piece of garbage that is easily beaten by video game consoles, and phones.

Fair enough. Personally I use Firefox also, particularly for noscript and adblock as you've noted. Knowing google will likely never consider adblock and noscript I'm hoping we will see something similar in IE at some point so I can try it as my default browser eventually. For now I'm just happy I can test my web dev work in IE9 with the developer tools and IE 7/8 emulation and eventually not have to worry about 7/8 albeit far in the future.

Chrome has had adblock for a long time. Late last year it also got something similar to noscript, called notscripts. It doesn't do everything noscript does, and sometimes has some problems, but for the most part, it gets the basic functionality down just fine.
