Nothing wrong with frontloaded contracts, people just need to save properly or have their guaranteed money spread across the years and have the incentive shit sprinkled throughout. Frontloaded contracts are probably preferred so if an injury or diminished skills come up down the line, you've already been paid heavily. And if you out play your contract above and beyond, you can make the owners play your game in the latter years by holding out for more money. I think that's what Lance Briggs is trying to do but I don't think he fulfilled the "above and beyond" part therefore he has no leverage. He could learn a thing or two from:

uh, doesn't work that way. if your abilities decline so much that you become overpaid, best believe you're getting cut. nfl contracts are rated by how much guarenteed money you're getting, bc aging players rarely get to see the money at the back end of a contract
