uh, doesn't work that way. if your abilities decline so much that you become overpaid, best believe you're getting cut. nfl contracts are rated by how much guarenteed money you're getting, bc aging players rarely get to see the money at the back end of a contract

there's also the whole thing of if you're still good in the later years you can complain that you're not getting paid what you're worth and need another nice fat guaranteed contract
