    Home Networking Question

Really wish there was a random question thread in tech, because this really doesn't need a whole topic, but meh

I have my home network set up as such:

Modem > wired router > wireless router. (all linksys)

And I'm trying to configure the wireless router. I understand that 192.168.1.1 is the usual address, but this only takes me to the wired router, and 192.168.100.1 is the modem. My question is, with this setup, is there a way to access my wireless router software with the network run like this? And if so, how? Google is failing me on this.

How many computers do you have that you need a wired and a wireless? Ether way turn off your DHCP on the wireless if it isn't on and it should get its IP address from the wired one. Go from there.

Edit: Should be 192.168.1.2 if it gets its ip address from the wired one.

I have to keep my fucking xbox on the wired, then everything else (2 lappys, ps3 ) on wireless. The thing is, I'm not sure on how to navigate to the wireless router. I can only get to the wired one (which I have the DHCP off, my shit likes to have ip conflicts if I don't). How would I go about getting to the wireless interface?

You'd probably have to plug the wireless router into a computer first to change the settings, or at least the IP address so you can access it while everything is on the network.

Most wireless routers have 4 ethernet slots.... don't use the wired router. And yes the above should work.

Firstly. Why are you using two routers? What is the setup your using to warrant both? One wireless should be enough to do both wired and wireless stuff, if not, just buy a dumb switch and use it off the wireless router. A bit of a description will help. Did you buy both things recently and just setting it up new? Did you have one around originally, and adding a new router? Etcetc.

Im assuming youre trying to connect to the wireless via a wired device? Your wired is handling your wireless, so just go in to the wireds menu, and check out its connected devices, and see what IP it gave out to the wireless. Unless youve change the wired settings drastically, the wireless IP will be somewhere around 192.168.1.2~10

What you want to do is change how they had out IP address. You can leave DHCP on on both devices, but itll make things a lot easier if you change the range of IPs they hand out. For example right now your wired is handing out 192.168.1.x (where x is anywhere from 2 to 255), and your wireless is trying to do that to. Some people will tell you to change the subnets, but if youre trying to see all connected peripherals on both devices, you need to same subnet. So once your able to log on to the wireless, change it's IP address to 192.168.2.1, and it's DCHP settings to (start) 192.168.2.2 to (end) 192.168.2.51 (or whatever you want). Just keep the subnet (255.255.255.0) alone.

This way there wont be any confusion within your network, no IP conflics, etc.

(I AFKd half way through this, and there were no replies at the time, so disregard some things if they were all ready answered)
Yeah, easiest would be to just plug soley in to the wireless alone, and then change the above settings.

Nah, I've sadly had this setup forever. Just here recently (within a month) there's been a problem to where the wired router will, very frequently, cut on and off (like its being reset) at random intervals.Go 24+ hours working fine, then 3-5 hours of it doing this constantly, then back to normal without me changing anything. I've tried tons of things outside of just buying new equipment, and nothings working. So I was going to see if I can do something with the wireless router to see if I can fix it. Maybe a conflicting problem or something, idk.

(To add to this, I usually see the LINK indicator light on the wireless go out when this happens.)

Buy this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124190 and never look back.
Couple it with the power of Open Source DD-WRT and you have a $1000 router.

Found the IP. 192.168.1.245, which I've never heard of. Now to see if I can nip this problem in the bud.

Yeah, it's an access point, and not a wireless router. I thought that didn't make a difference, but apparently it does.
