Watson @ Jeopardy Feb 14-16

IBM's Watson (Jeopardy AI) is gonna be in Jeopardy Vs Ken Jennings & Brad Rutters on Feb 14-16. This is especially interesting because Watson is an AI that learns by itself and because Jeopardy uses puns and jokes as clues, something that computers never really excel at.

They play this up a lot every night on Jeopardy. I was watching some Nova program with Neil deGrasse Tyson and they had a reasonably long section on Watson, saying, against IBM employees and some other people, Watson was winning 64% of his games, and I got the impression that was still long before they filmed the episodes. I'll be watching.

I'm betting Watson is gonna rape, though I hope Jennings comes out in the end. That may just be my Skynet fear kicking in.

Yeah, they spent a lot of it about what Watson does.. but it's a three day thing, so that's cool.

I'm hoping they can alter Watson between games, cuz that one... umm, "flub" was stupid as hell

flub? Watson did pretty well for all the questions that I saw, he was less confident on some sure but for the most part they were all correct, I think one was clearly on the wrong track and had all incorrect answers but the rest were all good. I highly doubt they will modify anything between games because performing a change on such a large project in the span of one day is nearly impossible, especially with so many parts. It's not one programmer, it's much more all working together and in order to properly implement something new and test it, it'd take much more than 24 hours. Even a highly agile team would be uncomfortable drastically adjusting a product in a 24 hour period and feeling confident the adjustment resulted in a final product.

I hope I can catch the 2nd and 3rd days, excited to see how the game plays out. Rooting for humans just because I think it's already amazing what a human brain is capable of, albeit a really intelligent human brain.

yeah, was gonna post the mistake as a spoiler, but got lazy and decided to just call it a flub. Would it really be that hard to somehow fix that in its programming or w/e.

He has no capacity for knowing the others' answers. Watson is fed textual data, the answers are given to Trebec orally, there is no feasible way to give Watson knowledge of what the other players are doing.
