I'd happily take Watson and welcome him as my computer overlord and new GM over Jerry Jones (who I'm sure is just a malfunctioning robot anyways).

But here's what I thought was strange... the very first time it got control of the board, it randomly picked an $800 question in an untouched category and got the Daily Double. Wtf? If it had been picking random dollar amounts for the whole round it wouldn't have seemed as weird.
I thought I answered this, but I must've posted it somewhere else. They fed Watson a huge amount of previously played Jeopardy games in order to "teach" it Jeopardy. If you do a bit of analysis on http://www.j-archive.com/ (an archive of old Jeopardy games), you'll see that the square Watson picked has the highest change of being a Daily Double. Without any Daily Doubles on the board, Watson seemed to pick the lowest dollar amount on the board. I'm not certain why, but my best guess is that it (IBM or Watson) decided that it (Watson) has a better chance of getting the easier answers.

AFAIK, a week's worth of episodes are done in one day (Tuesdays, I believe). They don't have 24 hours to fix a 'flub' (even if it is possible in 24 hours), and I think there is a mandatory waiting period before you can ring in. IBM fixes a few things, and I could totally see Watson raping very soon, humans just don't have a chance unless they continually ham every question up more and more.

Holy shit, Watson dominated the hell out of Double Jeopardy.

    Final Jeopardy edit:

    Spoiler: show
Very surprised Watson was so off the mark, especially considering the category was "US Cities" and gave Toronto. I guess all the airport and World War II information threw off it's algorithms like crazy. However, it's bid was pure win, only thing that would've been better was a bet of $1,337 for lulz.

seems a lot of it is just reaction time with the buzzer, seemed nearly every question Ken was like BUTTONBUTTONBUTTONFFFFUUU.
That being said, I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

I hope we get some buzz after this is all over about some of the things that happened, I'd like to know how it came up with Toronto like that...

I'd also like to know how it makes its Daily Double wagers, just seems like a random number generator lol

Edit: lmao Qalbert I saw that too. Felt kind of bad for the guy.

I'd understand if Pearson was a war hero, but... he wasn't. Its one thing to be "off the mark", but Toronto was about as far as you can get from the mark.

It was interesting. Watson did much better tonight than last night but it really seemed to come down to timing with the buzzer more than anything.

What was up with those Double Jeopardy bids?

Watson got a relatively easy question incorrect. Very very incorrect. Category was US cities and his answer was Toronto.

But he wagered some random numbe like $731.
