The Pushups if I remember was after Bruce went out crime fighting for the first night and after drinking what looked like a wheat grass smoothie he rolled out of bed fell on the floor and started doing pushups.

I am going to go ahead and take a guess as to the story progression:

Spoiler: show

Bane is created to go after and assist the police in the capture of batman
Bane "defeats" batman by breaking his back
Bane decides to take the city for himself
Catwoman fills for batman sort of (I think she will be an ally to batman but looking out for her wants and desires first)
Not sure if they will sneak it in but maybe Ra's al Ghul's daughter comes into play when dealing with Bruces recovery?
Batman is healed and goes after Bane.

That's what I was thinking too. Kind of like Robocop 1 basically. There are actually a couple of stories like this, but it feels like it'd fit the best with Batman. Especially with Nolan's Gotham, since we know he's on the run, self-framed for murder, etc., so he's definitely enemy-number-1 for the city. People want him gone since they lost Harvey and will most likely blame Batman for the deaths the Joker caused (as in, Batman didn't unmask) + the ones he 'admits' to.

Gordon is out of the picture clearly. At least for a time. Maybe someone else stepped into his shoes for a time being, and is responsible for Bane? And yea, I agree with the Catwoman angle.

I could see Catwoman being a crook who takes on a vigilante role to hunt down Batman at the start. Considering there's bound to be a massive bounty on him, I could see the movie starting with her on his trail, and then siding with him after Bane goes on a rampage.
