Yea, I'm just slightly surprised because I figure it means the movie will be good *and* they know it. I mean, who would release a 6 minute prologue if the movie sucked.

Last month, Warner Bros. confirmed it will attach a six-minute prologue of The Dark Knight Rises to 70 MM IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol starting December 16. Today the MPAA announced it will give the prologue a PG-13 rating, for "some violence."

The report from October also indicated the prologue will not screen on all IMAX digital screens, only 70 MM IMAX screens. Of course, this rating doesn't automatically mean The Dark Knight Rises in its entirety will be rated PG-13. However, since Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were both PG-13, it seems incredibly likely that The Dark Knight Rises will be released with the PG-13 rating.

Christopher Nolan is directing The Dark Knight Rises, which is still shooting in New York City. Warner Bros. used the same tactic four years ago, when it attached a prologue of The Dark Knight to prints of I Am Legend in December 2007.

New pics and info from the latest issue of Empire....

Story details spoilered for national security, etc....

    Spoiler: show
In the article, Nolan reveals that the story picks up eight years after The Dark Knight. "It's really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne's story. We left him in a very precarious place. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after 'The Dark Knight.' So he's an older Bruce Wayne; he's not in a great state. With Bane, we're looking to give Batman a challenge he hasn't had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we're testing Batman both physically as well as mentally."

Tom Hardy said that Bane is "brutal. He's a big dude who's incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and oriented fighting style. It's not about fighting. It's about carnage. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it's nasty. Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action."

Costume designer Lindy Hemming also talked about Bane's mask in the film. "He was injured early in his story. He's suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can't survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at his back, where there are two cannisters."

Nolan added that the prologue coming with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in IMAX "is basically the first six, seven minutes of the film. It's an introduction to Bane, and a taste of the rest of the film."

I like the skin manipulation they have on his shoulder/neck in those pics. I was worried hardy wasn't going to be as big as I imagined bane to be but this kind of solves it. Still don't see him being "bane"y in that brown jacket but whatever.

And 8 years.. i bet nolan did that so he wouldn't have to begin the story explaining how batman escaped cops and what not. I'll be disappointed if it jumps right into the story and batman's been the same good guy he's been prior to TDK and batman begins.

Bane one of my fav characters from the batman franchise. I want to see MI:3 but paying the extra money for IMAX was meh, but now i guess i have to.

    You probably shouldn't.

Last thing you'd want is to watch all of MI:3 thinking "Man I can't wait to see more of Dark Knight Rising".

Seriously. It'll be up online the next day anyways (and even if I saw MI3 it wouldn't be the first day it comes out lol)

I just hope they do present Bane as the intelligent person he is. Given his fighting style I'm assuming they are. I didn't expect the movie to be placed eight years after DK. Going to be interesting.

    Also: Broken back scene?

Since reading that though, I am already expecting to be disappointed with Batman winning by simply taking the mask from him.

It looks like fans will get their first look at both The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit sequel prior to their screening of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. It was earlier announced that select IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol would show an extended prologue to The Dark Knight Rises on December 16th. Collider (via Variety) reports that a teaser trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey before Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows which also opens on December 16th.
