It's outright said in the movie that the blast radius is 6 miles. Now that's an inaccurate figure given realistic calculations made with the reactor, but it gives your a much more believable distance traveled. I'd take the 350 mph estimate over Mach 3.
Also remember Gotham isn't supposed to be a substitute before NYC. That's what justifies the skyline switching, we aren't supposed to know what Gotham looks like. It could be a port city and he could be taking it out to the ocean. Suspending your knowledge of the true geography of where the scene was shot is justifiable.
Ok, I gave links before but I'll spell it out.
This link is a 14 MT warhead detonated on NYC. The red circle represents the 6 miles of total devastation. A literal ground zero, pictures of Hiroshima etc. It's roughly equivalent to the largest bomb ever detonated by America during the cold war, the fifth largest Nuclear explosion ever.
Suspending my knowledge of geography, that still means he has to get 35 freaking miles away before the heat flash from the bomb gives everyone in the city 3rd who's outside 3rd degree burns on their skin. Straight out to sea too, since you'd Ideally want to be 30 miles away from land.
I didn't pull those speed numbers out of my ass either. To travel 10 miles in 72 seconds, the plane would have to be traveling a constant speed of 500 MPH. 20 miles 1000 MPH. 35 Miles would have to be 1750 MPH, or over Mach 2.5. At 350 MPH the plane would travel 7 miles, still fucking everyone pretty royally.
A tactical helicopter, which is what the plane was for all purposes, is not going to hit Mach 1 let alone Mach 2. Anyone who tries to come in at this point at say its possible is a idiot.
It was a bad move to focus on the timer so much as a device for tension. Doubly so since the explosion was inevitable once the reactor was flooded. Just have the bars clicking down and show the 2nd to last one click away right before the bomb flies off.
Average person is an idiot so let's make movies for idiots. Hence, every single movie that gets hyped here.
Favourite movie of the year. It wasn't gdlk like the second, but it was still awesome.
Decided to watch Begins and man Bale's Batman voice was so much better then.
Which was better, Begins or TDKR?
Personally, I think this was the worst movie of the 3 -- but that's like saying Majora's Mask is the worst Zelda for the N64.
Double post.
First thing I though when it went off was that the city would still be fucked from the impending tsunami that would surely be caused by a nuke that size going off just above the ocean. Sure some of that water would be vaporised but I'm pretty sure the shockwave from an explosion that size would kick off some serious city destroying waves. It barely registered a ripple.
While loving the movie, I'll agree on the timer thing- that should have used a more qualitative counter.
My thoughts
Spoiler: show
Bane was fucking wack lol. Don't know what these critics are smoking to say he outshined Joker.

WHY WAS THIS NOT A THING?!?!?!

Double posts up in this mother fucker!
Had Decaprio been in it they could have called it The Dark Knight: Inception
Because then it would've just been a cheap knockoff of TDK. I'm glad that he picked Bane because I wanted to see someone truly challenge Batman physically. And I'm glad the movie was taken in a totally different direction in terms of what the bad guy was doing. With Riddler, it would've been been a whole lot of what Joker was already doing in the second movie.
Idc, I just wanted Leo
