Saw it today and loved it. Bane's voice distracted me at first, but then I got sucked into the movie and stopped thinking about it. I really liked the nods they made to the source materials while managing to weave familiar elements into something all their own. It's too bad Heath Ledger wasn't alive to see it. Would have been nice to reference The Dark Knight more than they did.

I watched it before DKR too.. Ra's says the fear gas is the tool that will bring about the destruction, not something else later on. They unleash the gas, and "tomorrow, the world will watch in horror as its greatest city destroys itself." Doesn't sound like a do this, wait a while, then do something else kinda thing..

Oh, guess I misunderstood -- should have quoted Sunrider. My point was that they weren't bringing the city to its knees, they were doing it all in one strike. Bane drawing it out, giving them hope or w/e was not part of the plan. Talia wanted revenge, Bane was along for the ride.

I don't mean to sound like I'm arguing with you because I do think what was done was done poorly but in its defense:

They did bring the city to its knees, over a period of five months from the moment they took the bomb out. They just didn't show it well. The bankrupting of Wayne Enterprises was the start, and the kind of chaos that developed in the city when all the cops were trapped underground (who fed them?) was implied but just not shown much at all. The Stephen Crane court room scenes were supposed to fill that role, and while they were awesome, they were not enough.

JGL's character was an amalgamation of three Robins (Dick, Jason, Tim) - his backstory, his profession, his attitude/personality are a pretty good blend. Also, I don't know if this is really an easter egg, but that pit was the Lazarus Pit. The whole being reborn thing, you know... Ra's was reborn through Talia, etc.

If he was the leader then what was his motivation? Terror and anarchy are one thing, but more than once he went out of his way to fuck over Bruce directly. He had no personal grudge against batman/bruce wayne.

Idk, didn't Ra's al Ghul say he was trying to destroy the city and kill its inhabitants in the first movie because Gotham had grown too out of control? "When a forest grows too wild, a purging fire is inevitable." I think Bane's plans fit that very well. He planned from the beginning to destroy everything. He said to Batman he was going to give the people of Gotham hope right before he took everything from them.

And he made special punishment for Bruce because he was Talia's friend/protector and she wanted revenge from him. She even commented that getting her father's murderer while completing his plans was a bonus.

So, Bane didn't want anything for his own personal reason's but for the Ideology of the Leage of Shadows/Talia. The movie never goes into why he wants, just what his goals are. What changed after Batman killed Ra's Al Ghul to make his daughter and her excommunicated friend go from hating him to wanting to fulfill his destiny?

Did Fox or anyone else say Megaton other then Bane's crew? I'm just curious because it could be written off as "Terrorists want you to think they have a bigger weapon then they do". And like others have said, it's a fusion reactor so who knows what it would really do when it reached detonation point.

Right, but that was clearly stated in the comics. He had heard about Batman, the mighty warrior in Gotham who was strong and powerful, and since his life was built on being the strongest, he wanted to defeat Batman. In this movie, the only motivation that Bane seemed to have was to help Talia.

Well to be fair it was a neutron bomb not an atom bomb, which is a substantial decrease in size. Still, of course it was Armageddon levels of unrealistic.
