Saw it today and loved it. Bane's voice distracted me at first, but then I got sucked into the movie and stopped thinking about it. I really liked the nods they made to the source materials while managing to weave familiar elements into something all their own. It's too bad Heath Ledger wasn't alive to see it. Would have been nice to reference The Dark Knight more than they did.

Since his plan didn't work Talia looked into a new plan that would accomplish the same thing I guess

but I'll say it one last time and then shut up about it: A bomb plot is fucking stupid

Oh, guess I misunderstood -- should have quoted Sunrider. My point was that they weren't bringing the city to its knees, they were doing it all in one strike. Bane drawing it out, giving them hope or w/e was not part of the plan. Talia wanted revenge, Bane was along for the ride.

I don't mean to sound like I'm arguing with you because I do think what was done was done poorly but in its defense:

They did bring the city to its knees, over a period of five months from the moment they took the bomb out. They just didn't show it well. The bankrupting of Wayne Enterprises was the start, and the kind of chaos that developed in the city when all the cops were trapped underground (who fed them?) was implied but just not shown much at all. The Stephen Crane court room scenes were supposed to fill that role, and while they were awesome, they were not enough.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough -- I was talking about back in Batman Begins not drawing it out.

JGL's character was an amalgamation of three Robins (Dick, Jason, Tim) - his backstory, his profession, his attitude/personality are a pretty good blend. Also, I don't know if this is really an easter egg, but that pit was the Lazarus Pit. The whole being reborn thing, you know... Ra's was reborn through Talia, etc.

    Quite a few:

    Spoiler: show

-The "R" in the cheer sign at the football game Bane targets is the logo of Red Robin.
-Bane's comment on how Batman fights "like he was still a young man" mirrors a line Bruce thinks to himself in The Dark Knight Returns.
-Bruce Wayne looks up old newspaper clippings about Catwoman's escapades: they give her the nickname "The Cat", which was what Catwoman was known as in her earliest comic book appearances.
-The crooked businessman who wants to absorb Wayne Enterprises is known as "John Daggett", a nod to "Roland Daggett" from Batman The Animated Series.
-Bane's relationship to the League of Shadows. This references the comic series Bane of the Demon, where Ra's considered Bane as his heir.
-Batman's remark when being at the receiving end of a Batman Stealth Goodbye, "So that's how it feels like..." was his exact response to a similar situation in Kingdom Come.
-Bruce and Selina meeting at a Masquerade Ball is a big hello to Batman Returns.

Idk, didn't Ra's al Ghul say he was trying to destroy the city and kill its inhabitants in the first movie because Gotham had grown too out of control? "When a forest grows too wild, a purging fire is inevitable." I think Bane's plans fit that very well. He planned from the beginning to destroy everything. He said to Batman he was going to give the people of Gotham hope right before he took everything from them.

And he made special punishment for Bruce because he was Talia's friend/protector and she wanted revenge from him. She even commented that getting her father's murderer while completing his plans was a bonus.
So, Bane didn't want anything for his own personal reason's but for the Ideology of the Leage of Shadows/Talia. The movie never goes into why he wants, just what his goals are. What changed after Batman killed Ra's Al Ghul to make his daughter and her excommunicated friend go from hating him to wanting to fulfill his destiny?

Oh wow, how did I forget about the Kingdom Come thing? Awesome.

I love how much of this trilogy responded to the existence of these comics without following hem directly. Also,
    Spoiler: show
There was a rather Batman Beyond vibe about Wayne in the beginning of TDKR, and his relationship with Blake was kinda Beyond-y too.

Aside from going to go see it again because you have to, I have to figure out if they screwed up the whole movie taking place in a
    Spoiler: show
    minimum 6 month setting.

Cause the pacing wasn't good but hey you only have 3 hours to entertain the viewers.

    Right, this bothers me.

    Spoiler: show
Ok, so Bane grew up in "hell" and got out eventually, only after being disfigured. But until Talia I guess told him about it, he would have had no idea who Batman/Wayne was. And how did she find out, for that matter? I guess the Internet. Anyway, so his only real motivation is through her. THAT is why I say he was a lap dog. Maybe he wants equality and Hell for everyone, but targeting Gotham is just arbitrary for him, it would seem.

For the sake of all involved, I won't comment on the reactor or the bomb.

Didn't the movie say Ra's had excommunicated them at the point where everything with Wayne happened.

Right, but that was clearly stated in the comics. He had heard about Batman, the mighty warrior in Gotham who was strong and powerful, and since his life was built on being the strongest, he wanted to defeat Batman. In this movie, the only motivation that Bane seemed to have was to help Talia.

Well to be fair it was a neutron bomb not an atom bomb, which is a substantial decrease in size. Still, of course it was Armageddon levels of unrealistic.
