Did you watch the movie? He wanted to do what Ras failed to do, and he knew that the Batman was the only one who could stand in the way.

What changed after Batman killed Ra's Al Ghul to make his daughter and her excommunicated friend go from hating him to wanting to fulfill his destiny?
Do they ever say that they hated Ras when they were excommunicated?

what were his motivations in the comics? Pretty sure he just wanted to beat the shit out of Batman and rule Gotham
He has a dream about being the super best awesome guy in the world, and there's a huge bat in the dream I believe, so when he hears about Batman he puts 2 and 2 together.

Why? Just for Talia's sake? As far as I can tell he never even met Ra's.

Do the anti-bane henchmen guys agree that Bane-talia relationship could have been done better to make bane look less henchmen-like?

The whole thing unravels itself when the bat breaks his mask, for me. Bane cries and then is ORDERED by talia to let the bat live for the explosion. That's not very master-mindy to me, even though (without that scene) it's very obvious he was in charge and felt passionately (tomhardy acting) about what he was doing.

That's another thing I never mentioned, I wasn't blown away with the facial/arm gestures hardy was doing as bane, but he played a damn good character whose face you could not see (except the eyes/brows which honestly aren't all that expressive without the rest of the face)

^he was trained by Ra's along with talia because when talia escaped she had Ra's come back and get bane out. Bane was excommunicated because he was ugly and reminded Ra's of leaving his wife to die.

Oh absolutely, I'm just saying that he's not a pussy henchmen like everybody is so quick to believe. He cried because he was in love with her, villains and masterminds can have feelings too. As for being ordered, does it not occur to anybody that Talia saw that Batman was beating Bane and stepped in to save him and in doing so got a rush of adrenaline and megalomania as the plan came together, then she gets irked that she has to deal with the intervention of Gordon and so orders Bane out of anger. Not only that but Bane obviously didn't care because he disobeyed her as soon as she left. He wasn't afraid of disobeying her, he just cared about besting the Bat.

I just don't buy this. WHY? What motivation does Bane have against Batman besides his relationship with Talia, which is the whole reason he was in the League of Shadows? In THIS universe, because it's clearly very different from the comics' Bane.

If you want to argue that the contrast between what he went through growing up versus Bruce's being wealthy and the whole rich v. poor dichotomy, then I'd say the movie just did very little with that, though it makes some sense.

Not trying to say you are wrong, just feel like I'm missing something if that's what other people think.

Sure, he disobeyed, but he did it when she left. Like, a child isn't above their father just because they stick their tongue out at their father's back or something

Prior to the scene the audience shouldn't have known about talia and she gets a big reveal where she goes from maiden in distress to ordering bane around complete with a flashback backstory. Just relatively, her presence in the movie jumps the most of any character. Either you know a character's position in the beginning or it's a gradual upbringing, her leap to power is, I think, a bit hard to take in and damn confusing since Bane, prior to this, was clearly the boss and in charge in every scene he was in. His voice even beat physics, damn it

Your explanation by the way of her just being overtaken by the moment, basically is kind of an interpretation since anybody else could have taken what the scene gives you and came up with different conclusions.

That scene could have been better I think.. bane wasn't as much of a "protector" like a father to a child, but a "protector" like a sword is to a swordsman. In only that scene, by the way. Its message on talia-bane and bane's status in the movie didn't agree with the rest of the movie imo and I'm pretty sure I just overlooked it and kept on enjoying the film but in hindsight there's something a bit wonky going on there.

Saw it yesterday, loved it. While I certainly noticed some problems with the plot, I'm not seeing the problems a lot of people had with the plot. Talia's change was so on the fucking nose, I'm not sure how you couldn't see it coming.
    Spoiler: show
Her scar is specifically shown in a shot, which tipped me off. She then takes over as president of Wayne Enterprises and Bane tells whatever the fuck that guy's name was that everything was going as planned.

Bane > Joker idgaf come at me bro. Loved his character.

Joker = Bane in terms of bad guy persona I think, because they are both badasses just in different ways.

Is anyone else pissed that this is the final entry though in this series? I mean we finally start getting good Batman movies and we only get 3? FUCK, I want to see more with the Ridder, Ivy and Killer Croc.

I also thought Zasz should have gotten more then just a cameo.

Yeah, talia was easy and I was only 100% when the scar came up but the typical audience shouldn't have known

Nobody hates the movie because of the plot holes or problems. Most of this comes up in retrospect. Movie rocked, I'm pretty sure most if not all of us discussing aren't shitting on the movie - just discussing.

Bane's actually the villain I'll hold dearest to my heart just because of the voice. "Do you feel in charge?" fuckin' loved it. My favorite quote from all the batman's

I'll agree that he was chillingly good in most of his scenes. Anything wrong I had with Bane's character was due to his backstory and not his acting, delivery, or dialogue. Joker was a perfect blend of both, though.

I love the realistic approach he took with Batman and wish more directors would explore this with other super heroes. I'm very sad this is the last one

I'm actually pretty happy. It was a well rounded trilogy showing the "realistic" and darker side of Batman, but I just can't get into them as much as most people seem to. I'm ready for someone else to give a try, hopefully with a bit more Batman action/detective and a faster pace. I feel like these were very "heavy" movies, which I respect, but I'd like to see less brooding and more Batman being awesome.

Indeed! For all my vitriol I'm going back for a second helping this Friday with friends.

Bane being a GOOD Bane is why I don't like his (my perspective) lack of motivation. I like some of the posits for why he would hate Bruce Wayne (thus, Batman). It fits someone who would want to carry out the League of Shadows plan to 'cleanse' Gotham. But again, that goes back to his reasons being someone else's ideology. He's made out to be very intelligent - what would cause him to carry that torch with the methodical fury that he does? The only thing DKR presents is that he is devoted to Talia. And that devotion could very well be his motivation - but it isn't shown, only told. And as the old adage goes, show don't tell.

For all the complaints about Nolan's trilogy, the next Batman is going to have one helluva challenge toppling what was started here.

I don't think I can go back to the camp. Ever.

I would have liked to see Bane in a setting akin to Nightfall but with Ledger dead and Nolanverse, it just wouldn't work sadly. Though I wanted to see Bane spying on Batman like he does in the comics and wearing him down through a bunch of trials before finally finishing him and breaking him

    edit:

Fuck I forgot Mr Freeze, I want to see him in a Nolan movie >_<

Why wasn't he chosen? I feel like he would have been awesome to end the trilogy.

Fear of not being realistic enough perhaps? Considering Bane didn't even use any kind of steroid.
