I think I may need to clarify my stance on your suggestion. Carrey yes, has the complete acting ability to pull off a Joker. However, I think he'd be much better at playing the type of Edward Nigma of the animated series or comics for that matter in a Nolanverse setting. My main turn-off from your suggestion was anyone taking over the role from Ledger. I feel strongly against most actor changes in a movie or television series, Doctor Who and Bond obviously being exceptions.

Does Arkham even exist anymore in the Nolanverse after the first movie? It was used in the first one as just Crane's personal playground and the starting point for Ra's plans in Gotham with the water supply. There was never any mention of it again afterwards so it's entirely possible the place was shut down completely thanks to Crane.

The only reference in Dark Knight I can recall is when Batman tells Joker he'll be "spending the rest of his life in a padded cell."

Why did the Joker need to be mentioned in the movie? He had no bearing in it at all. Harvey did though. What? did they need a scene where Bruce and Fox were reminiscing about what a wacky guy Joker was? Or maybe Batman tells Catwoman how he beat joker to help get him into her pants.

Because they wrote the Joker better than Ra's or Bane? I mean he was trying to accomplish the same goal, destroy Gotham, but he did something far worse than the League, killed the love of Batman's life without knowing it. They shortened it to, well Rachel's dead, when it could have been, the Joker did XYZ. While it's not a big thing for me, it again feels jarring after getting the past events and characters further explored.

And Bane didn't free the people in Arkham. Arkham is the asylum. Blackgate is the regular prison. I can only assume Scarecrow was there because the Nolan version wasn't any type of insane, thus he probably got normal jail.

Yea we don't know if Arkham is still in operation after Begins. I can't remember it being mentioned in TDK. And I think they wouldn't put Crane into the Asylum he ran and thus knew everything about. But I'll take the different building approach as plausible enough for the Joker not being released.

The Joker wasn't trying to destroy Gotham. He just wanted to prove people were as fucked up as him given the right situation.

Think a plot hole I haven't seen mentioned is how Bruce set that little knee brace or whatever early on after being told his cartilage was shot, only for him to presumably not be using it later since I'd think he'd be stripped of gear and such before getting dumped into the pit. I'm also kinda iffy on how effective Bane's punches should've been against the batsuit, but I guess since they had him punch a hole through a pillar, we're supposed to believe they're up there.

Now that you remind me Arus, there was a person stating earlier about bane punching the wall w/o venom. That person should check out the documentary Budo: The Art of Killing.

Just felt sketchy on that since I think we were told the suit was bulletproof in the first movie, just not knifeproof. I can understand getting the wind knocked out of him if hit hard enough, but otherwise I think it'd disperse punches fairly well unless Bane punches as hard or harder than bullets travel. Given the hard-on some have for Nolan's fondness of realism, just seems like a bit of an oversight. I'd even give Bane some benefit of the doubt with his own vest thing softening Bats' blows.

Bane broke his helmet, which (assuming it was the same material as the original one if not more durable) was made out of graphite. I know nothing about graphite, but given that Alfred needed a metal bat to break it, I'm assuming it's pretty durable.

I feel as strongly as you do about it, but when the previous actor dies, it's not as if his stunt-double will pick up where he left off. And if an actor were to pick up the Nolanverse Joker, they would inevitably have to borrow something from the previous actor's performance, even if the character's image is rewritten a bit.

I can respect the idea of leaving a character alone after a performer dies, but Ledger wasn't the first to nail the performance, won't be the last, and the Joker is simply too big a character to simply shelve.

You could still get ur bones broken by bullet impacts, except you don't get shoot thru by the bullets.

I remember watching an episode where the new batman is fighting joker and old bruce is on the bluetooth thing and is telling him to just ignore all of joker's BS but instead the new kid does some jokez of his own and he beats the joker up without old batman's advice to bruce's surprise

I actually thought instead of Robin JGL's name would have been whatever the kid's name is in batman beyond, lol

Died before film was released over rumors he OD'd on prescription drugs he used to get in the Joker character. Now nobody can OMG top his Joker.

Like I've said before, Nolan owes the success of the trilogy to Ledger and his bitch ass suicide.

There where rumors well before he OD'ed that his Joker was going to be the new gold standard. TDK had the good fortune of tons of positive hype and (for a lot of people) exceeding the hype. Its very rare that happens.
