The not-yet-created, and never really imitated...NCAA Basketball 2011/March Madness thread.

    A few things of note:

The Big East may do something unprecedented. I think, as of now, bracketology 101 (better than lunardi) has the Big East with 11 bids. It's insane.

Steve Lavin was a steal for St. Johns

    UK sucks

Louisville, with 5 new starters, was expected to be in a "bridge year" according to Rick Pitino. They weren't supposed to be very good at all. Couple that with the fact they have been riddled with injuries and a white boy has been slaying, they have been great. Couple that with the fact they've played about 5 overtime games, a triple overtime game, and a shit ton of games within 2 points, they're battle tested and fun as hell to watch.

    UK sucks.

    Oh, and lol Michigan State.

    Latest rankings:

    1Kansas (14) 24-1

#14 Wisconsin beats undefeated #1 Ohio State.

In two sports in a row.

    Feels good man.

I haven't really been paying attention; have you complained that Wisconsin is not #1 and considered the best team of all time yet

There seems to be a lot of parity this year in the major conferences. (or more so I should say it's tough as shit to get a quality road win in the good conferences)

LSU is really young and otherwise shitty so that kinda killed my interest this year... until MARCH MADNESS

Ya but lose in their bowl game and have an OK season in basketball, guess feeling good about being average is good.

The Big East can be so frustrating sometimes.. UConn's playing amazing this year, then they drop 3 of 4 including a hammering by wtfSt.John's

I was really looking forward to the Big 10's battle for second place tonight, but then I realized it didn't make it on to TV out here.

There's only so many undefeated teams whose dreams we can crush per calendar year. Usually they're just from Ohio.

    Also, mad. :D

I fully expect the Badgers to crush Oregon State's undefeated season next September in Camp Randall. At least Ohio State won't be the only OSU whose dreams they crush next year.

A bit shocked that press defense killed UL like that. They typically flourish against this sort of press. Cinci is incredibly well conditioned.

No one ever wins road games.

    UC actually made shots.

UC can wear teams out but they can't shoot for shit.

So eight of the top 12 teams lost this week, including all of the top 4. Two of the four that didn't are in the Mountain West. I'm really curious to see the polls tomorrow, and to see how this affects the various Bracketology projections. I could see any of Kansas, Texas, Ohio State or Duke being #1 tomorrow. Not that rankings really matter at this point, but they sure are interesting.

sad but true, Michigan State will still make the tournament somehow. At least they showed a little heart in the Ohio State game and got the win on the Illini. Shitty schedule, shitty team, shitty coaching this year. Out in the first round.

I'd likely vote for Pitt due to the gauntlet of a schedule they have had this year. Texas played a similar tough schedule, but lost to Pitt on a neutral court. I believe Duke has beaten one currently ranked team (North Carolina). Ohio State will likely get punished a bit more for losing by double digits, even though it was a better loss than the others.

I'm crossing my fingers that Purdue gets put in the bracket that has San Diego St. or BYU as the 1 seed if one of them ends up there, which they might when the majors beat each other up in conf. tourneys.

...and I noticed the NCAA is calling the play in games the "first round" and the real first round the "second round". That's going to be annoying and create confusion when most fans call Thursday/Friday the first round just like most continue to call that other football division Division 1-AA instead of whatever they renamed it to.

I want to see St. Johns get an 8/9 seed and play a 1-seed.

Dear North Carolina, stop playing like shit. Dear Roy Williams, run plays for Harrison.
