Yup, maybe it's a red herring: the 'John Connor is a terminator' thing is revealed right at the beginning as an alternate timeline and then the rest of the film is how to prevent it from happening /shrugs.

Didnt read or view up anything about this before going tonight, so nothing was spoiled for me. Fireworks on screen for Canada day was acceptable. A lot of points in the movie was predictable, sometimes by just one sentece.

Didnt dislike it as much as T3, so I guess its worth a watch on the big screen.

Honestly, I think I went in with such low expectations (like I imagine most people will after 3 and 4) that I was pleasantly surprised. That said, Arnold was definitely the best part of it. As much as I love Emilia Clarke, she felt too much like Daenerys and not enough like Sarah Connor (Lena Headey did a better job of carrying the spirit of Sarah Connor from T2 in the Sarah Connor Chronicles, imo).

Also, fuck the post credits scene.. I got all hopeful that this was final the end of Skynet (even though I know there's no way they'd stop making Terminator movies..), and then they couldn't even give me the full credits..

As to the post credits/end of skynet, by the nature of weird time shit, you can't really stop making sequels or kill skynet.

It really wasn't. I went in with low expectations. I mean Arnold is really the only thing that makes it enjoyable. There are also some great action scenes. But the chemistry (or lack thereof) between Emilia Clarke and what's his face (whoever plays Reese) is pretty awful.

I don't know why I watched this. This was baaaad.

Wish the trailers hadn't given away the John Connor twist though. Would've been in suspense for about 5 minutes.

Director was apparently pissed that the trailers showed it. Said it was his favorite moment of the movie and felt like he based the movie around that build up revelation. Then marketing did their thing and showed the twist without his knowledge until he saw the trailer on T.V. That really would be a punch in a dick.

I can see that. Because that whole reveal was built up with the assumption that the audience didn't know but the trailers had destroyed that assumption.

I viewed none of the trailers, so during the hospital scene I was actually rather excited to see a Terminator, John and his mum possible adventures... then boom, nope!

I feel they missed an opportunity to portray John as a third party to the whole Skynet vs Humans thing, similar to how the TV show had a separate machine faction that was neutral / helping humans. Based on that, John could vary from being completely on the human side, to trying to guide Skynet to co-existence, or having him be a "new" Skynet that's even more cunning and manipulative.
