Fuck this game.
There's few games that have made me turn it off in frustration but this is near the top of the pile.

Playing solo the game slowly but surely throws one dick move at you after another as the game progresses. 4 Infected at once might be manageable in a group but solo it's a kick in the balls because the kick isn't fast enough to keep them all stunned, or even to stun enough to let you reliably thin them out, and half the time the hit detection is so bad enemies clip right through your kick and attack while passing through you. By the time you've realised what happened you've died and re-spawned in the middle of the group.

That whole last section is a massive pain in the arse with all the scripted events throwing endless streams of Infected at you and the last boss is a shitheel if ever there was one if you're solo. "Oh you're winning? Let me open these doors to trigger an infinite stream of armed Infected on fire to fuck up your day. Oh and you need to shimmy past a Thug type in a small space barely wider then it is."

Was tempted to go back and try out the other characters but I'll be happy to uninstall this and never see it again.

I'm glad I didn't commit to buying this before trying it. Played solo most of the time because of noone joining my games and when I would join up the people would either disconnect or I would disconnect or they would leave or something, but solo is seriously a bunch of bullshit.

This game is worth playing with your friends, solo not so much.

Your friends should be A) Loud and black or B) Drunk.

I love zombie games. Zombie movies. Zombie books etc. I liked Dead Island but I'm a bit disappointed with it. For a first time developer the game is pretty damn good. But there are way too many fuck you moments in this game while playing solo. Like Winter said above, between the infected and the armed thugs I've had some pretty rage filled moments. Playing solo I don't see much replay value. The issue with playing multiplayer is that the enemies will scale to the highest level person in your group. So if you have some lower leveled buddies coming along they get fucked. Repeatedly. It's like watching a Goblin Smithy aggro a lower leveled guy in Yuhtunga. So now instead of actually playing, you're being the bodyguard.

Are you sure? When I was laying with a lvl 15 char a lvl 37 joined the game, and the mobs were still scaled to my level. He ran around and killed Thugs in 1 hit.

In my experiences its actually scaled to the game makers level. (The actual host)

Same thing for me, had higher level players in my games that were just destroying everything and weren't incredibly OP for my character's level.

Escorting the Native chick is my current hang-up. It's fucking stupid. 4 infected run out of jungle and immediately rape her before I can get their attention. Even if I did I'm sure I'd die before dispatching them all.

I remember that part, took me a few tries. Having powerful weapons is the key to soloing. Luckily i met some cool people who didn't mind sharing while i did the 15% co-op.
