rma it.
rma it.
We're already sure it's not a fuckup on my end?
Defective RAM is relatively common.
I tried to do this once awhile ago and found that 2GB was the most the hardware would support. If your laptop's as old as mine and depending on how much you tried to add it's possible it's not going to work. I forget where the limit lied in the hardware, but you can try searching for your model and seeing if people report being able to use as much RAM as you are.
So a few years after i build my PC, my PSU started to make very annoying noise, so i decided to replace it
here is my existing Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128337
Here is my current Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153042
at friend's advice i picked new PSU and got it shipped to me : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194094
so there problem starts here, being a noob that i am i picked PSU solely based on # W Comany name and Price tag... the first PSU, had 12v 4 pin connector, and this one doesn't, also no cable seem to be able to connect to my motherboard
can someone tell me what my choices are to fix this problem? thx
Um... either the description and pictures on newegg are wrong (highly doubtable) or you are blind, but the PSU should have a 4(+4)-Pin connector in black... Since some newer CPUs need more power they require 8-pin, but the connector should be splittable so it also fits into 4-pin.
oh thx a lot, i read your reply, went to check my pc and Viola... it's splitable O.o so that's what 4+4 means, i only seen some 6 pin ones and an 8 o.o followed by immdiate /panic
while waiting on reply done a deep cleaning on old psu, + a happy ending... wonder if it'll work ok now or should just use the new one...
Yeah, would have loved 4, but when I went online and used multiple "choosers" to find what RAM I needed, all of them said the most my system could support was 2GB, so I got a pair of 1GB sticks of Crucial off Amazon. (Yes, my laptop is running 1GB atm.)
Ok then, should I go through Amazon for a replacement, or go through Crucial?
Have you tried the sticks individually? If they're the same speed as what you have and you know 1GB is fine it should be an easy way to tell if they're actually dead or if it's compatibility
I'll give it a try in a bit.
My main concern is borking the RAM I already have. The more I open up the machine, the more chances there are something will go wrong.
I'm not at the point where I can afford a new PC yet as a choice, only where if it dies, there's enough in the emergency fund to replace it.
Update:
So, I put in one of the new sticks, close everything up, and start up.
It works, I turn everything off.
Then, I put in the second stick, etc.
Now it works, I have 2GB of RAM. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT.
Fucking computers.
Spoiler: show
As far as I know, no. Also that is weird and I don't remember how it was for installing my laptop's ram, but the first time I installed desktop ram the pressure required was pretty surprising and left me leaving them unseated more than once.
WTF is with tv episodes/movies that are listed on various download sites labeled as 720p (nfo file, filename, and the topic posting) but have a resolution of some shit like 1280x576? The OCD in me has a hard enough time getting 720 instead of 1080, but then they go and do this crap...
Because people would be confused if they used anything other than 480/720/1080p.
Looking for a website that sells Servers rack got donated some old servers + switches from School so would be cool to put them i na rack at home.
Looking for maybe 5-10 U and ship to canada

So woke up this morning and now I'm getting this "Battery Not recognized, insert a Dell laptop battery" error message. The battery has worked/been recognized for the past week now. It's not a dell battery but it is the right battery for the laptop, any way to fix this problem? :<
Remove the battery try to put some air (with a canned air) slowly in the battery receptacle on the laptop then replace the battery
If not battery probably dead
