Got an interesting problem with my Galaxy S3 i've had for about a month. If I'm playing music in my car while I got it plugged into the car charger, the player will randomly stop between songs and I'll get some horrible feedback in my speakers. If I tap the power button like i'm turning on the phone to the home screen it continues on. This only seems to happen when it's charging as I've ran it 90 minutes straight with zero issues when I'm at the gym. Any idea what's up?

Got a new error today! (Still haven't found the issue to my crashes).

Your power management system is missing a driver.

Follow these steps to solve this problem:

Click to download the driver from the ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated website

Download and extract the driver files

Click Save or Save as, and then save the file to your desktop. If you can’t choose where to save the file, you’ll need to find it and copy it to your desktop. When you download files, most web browsers save them to the Downloads folder on your computer.

To extract the contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder you saved to the desktop, click Extract All or Extract Here, and then follow the instructions.

Double-click the extracted folder to view its contents.

    Note
If the folder contains a readme file, release notes or installation instructions, we recommend you read that information before starting the installation.

    Install the driver

To start the installation, double-click the install file. This file will be identified as either an Application or a Windows Installer Package file in the Type column to the right of the file name.

Follow the steps in the installation wizard. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Additional information

The model name of your power management system is ASUS Cool 'n' Quiet.
Could this point to either my memory or mobo dying?

I can't help with this, but my Galaxy S3 has the same exact issue, haven't seen any solutions to it yet.

Zim; At that point I'd mutter something about my computer dun gotten haunted and take it to a shop because the shop tends to have better diagnostic tools than me and my brother do. If you do decide to go that route, don't use best buy. Best Buy'll just try to sell you a new pc, and I hear the people in their "shop" area don't know much about fixing pcs anyway. Use a mom and pop computer fix it shop or Computer Renaissance.

But yeah, sounds like mobo going wonky because I think (If I'm not mistaken) power management is run by the mobo. If you're not sure, a computer fixit shop is in order.

Haha, my friend let me borrow a new video card, so I am in the process of trying that out. Going to try memory after that (pretty sure RAM is good). I also have a buddy that will ship me a PSU to try, so hopefully I can start eliminating some possibilities here.

I am also thinking my PC may be haunted. I know the least about MOBO's. Not sure if it could have a virus that normal scans wouldn't pick up, or if it needs to be reset. Or just ghosts. Thanks for trying to help though.

The fact i'm not the only one with this makes me feel a little better. I love the phone but i've had some quirks with it the first month, like having 3-4 bars and 4g signal and not being able to browse the web while the wife with her Galaxy S3 is working fine. I haven't had that issue though since the first week.

So my secondary 500 GB hard drive finally shit the bed today.

I have a seagate 3 TB external HDD that I purchased on black friday and have never really used it. Could I remove the drive from the enclosure, and use that as a internal drive instead of purchasing a new one?

What drive is it? Most 3.5" drives will just be an internal 3.5" within an enclosure but some externals have USB connectors soldered where the SATA connectors would have been (forgot if it was a specific company)

Random question: I had my old HP dv4-1275mx motherboard die, but the hard drive is OKAY.

Friend of mine gave me their HP G60-243CL, but with a small HD capacity, so I figured, hey, let me put the larger HD instead of this smaller one.

The issue is, with the hard drive from my dead laptop- the sound card / USB ports aren't showing up as connected, but when I use the original hard drive, it IS connected-

I tried installing/downloading drivers for both, one of the major issues is that I can not find the sound/game port option, nor the co-processor.

    tl;dr

HP dv4-1275mx motherboard died, used that HD on a HP G60-243cl.

Sound and USB not working on HP G60-243cl after putting in HD from dv4-1275mx

unable to find driver for sound physically on the 'hardware and sound' tab portion of control panel

unsure of USB issue, still searching.

"No audio devices are installed" when I try to troubleshoot sound.

both systems running on Win7 home premium

got any advice for a semi-noob?

Got a second hand monitor to replace my current display, and it's toting just VGA, DVI, and a DisplayPort.

I'm not all that familiar with DisplayPort, and I need a means of getting an HDMI connection through to the display for my PS3 (monitor does support HDCP). Preferably would like to keep my PC signal digital, so that would leave me two options....

    1) HDMI->DVI for PS3, DVI->DisplayPort for PC
    2) HDMI->DisplayPort for PS3, DVI for PC

Would I run into any problems on either option?

Outside of the shit viewing angles (which is fine in normal position, but useless when you rotate the screen 90 degrees), I kinda like this monitor. Solid weighted base to it too unlike all the prior (larger) screens I've played with which are flimsy. Something to tide me over until I get around to replacing my dead 24" from a full year ago.

It was either use this thread or bump Mini's awesome home theater thread so I thought I would use this one first.

I'm looking to get a sound setup for my tv. I would like some recommendations on receivers below $300.

I am looking at eventually going to 5.1 system but plan on starting small at a 2.1 and then adding on in the future. I have the skill to be able to build my own but lack the tools to do so where I currently live. What would I look at for a 2.1 speaker setup in the $200-$400 range?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Right now I am using a Pioneer VSX-1020-K 7.1 that I got from Amazon's Warehouse Deals for $190 in Like New condition last year. It's a really nice receiver for what I paid for the price, even if it is a little outdated.

I'm a budget home theater person so right now I am in the process of filling out my system with some Polk Monitor speakers, just waiting on the next newegg sale to get a pair of Monitor70s for my fronts (~$170 each). I currently have some Monitor 60s that ran ~$120 each.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of a setup you are looking for, but I've enjoyed my Polk speakers.

OK. Annoying problem 101 that I've noticed; the screen saver tends to come on while I'm playing FF7. Is there a way to disable that while that program is running and ONLY while that program is running? Thanks. Again, this is windows XP.

Thinking of getting an Radeon HD 7850, ive heard good things about the cards themselves but i keep hearing rumors about how bad ATI drivers are in general and that i should stay away. Are the drivers that bad? and does anyone know of any horrible problems with these drivers and the following games.

    11 & 14
    World of tanks
    SC2
    Star wars The old republic

Drivers aren't that bad tbh, they are a bit slow on getting CF profiles out but with a single card that doesn't matter as much. Each manufacturer has its share of problems but with a single card and single screen I doubt you'll have any problems with either

There's a reason I will never buy an off the shelf computer again, but with the software company for work's inventory/sales software I don't have much choice for the server. So, we have to use a Dell T110...which is one of the worst ventilated cases I've seen in a long time. We killed one already, and I'm thinking it might be a heat issue. And, because adaptability wasn't on Dell's to do list when designing it, it only has two 5" drive slots, both of which are used for CD drive/tape backup. I would love to put one of these thermometers in it, but there is simply no room. At the very least, I plan to add in 1 or 2 expansion slot fans as well.

    Two possibilities:

    1. Does someone make an expansion slot thermometer? As in, a little box that you can set on top of the computer and the sensors run in through an open slot? At worst, I might just get the one I linked above and run the cables that way anyway.

    2. I might just yank the motherboard, hard drives, etc out and stick them in a new case that doesn't suck--any chance that a Dell motherboard would actually line up (standout wise and back panel wise) with a standard ATX tower?

If my router is in mixed b/g/n mode, does that make it downscale to the lowest connected device, or does it go out on separate bands so that each type of device gets their level of connection?

Depends on the router, but if a new-ish mass market router like a Linksys, it works like the latter. Each device gets its own band, G get G, N gets N, a G and a N device can be connected at same time.

LOL just turn that crap off along with any other power management options in bios and set windows to performance mode.
