So there has been a SCH-i500 (Samsung Galaxy S) phone in my works safe for over a month, owner never came back and claimed it so they were throwing it out. Figured I could switch out my phone and use it. Just curious if there is any way to remove all cell phone data on it (The phone #)? Hard/Factory resets really only erases user content on it. Both my phone and the samsung are with the same carrier (US Cellular).

Factory reset is all you can do to clear the data that is deletable. The IMEI (unique phone identification number) is hard-coded and can't be deleted/changed.

Any safe way to change phones over? As far as I can tell this phone is still in service, can make calls/3g still works. But it's been abandon for over a month. Would like to use it but if there's any risk involved I may just dump it myself.

Unable to use wired connection. HDD not showing up.

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

    Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K

    8gb ddr3

    gtx 670

    128 gb ssd crucial m4

    CORSAIR TX 750 power supply

I have two different problems. First:

my Computer will not go online through wired port on motherboard. I have put a friends wireless card in it and it works but is very slow. No matter what i have tried so far the computer will not even recognize that there is a network. There are alot of other devices in the house that go online just fine so it is not the router. Any ideas?

Second: I have the computer up and running OS on the ssd and a few games as well. I also bought a 1tb western digital black HHD.. I can not get the hardrive to be read. it does not show up in the bios. i have tried different SATA cords. I have tried putting it into different Sata ports on the motherboard. nothing has worked. I know there is alwasy the possibilty that it arrived dead, but I dont know enough to be ceartain.

This is my first build so any advice would be truely appreciated.

Did you install drivers for the nic? A disk came with your mobo, it is quite important to install some of the stuff on it.

This. When I built my pc I did not put a cd drive in it. The ethernet port was not working. I had to use a laptop to download drivers to be able to use the internet on the desktop.

My 5 year old Toshiba laptop is turning on but won't actually boot up. The power light comes on, the wifi light comes on, and the CD tray lights up and opens if I press it. I'm getting absolutely nothing on the monitor. The monitor has been less than perfect for a while now, cutting out completely if it is at a certain angle.

The fans don't sound quite as loud as normal but I may just be overthinking it and it could be as simple as the monitor crapping out.

Any troubleshooting suggestions to figure out what the problem is?

Usually laptops have support for an external monitor so you can try connecting it to one to see if anything displays that way. You can also try to access it remotely to see if it's starting up or not, but without being able to prepare it ahead of time that'd be hard to do. If you had the professional edition of Windows installed you might be able to do that.

    Thanks for the response Caiyuo.

I just randomly tried turning it on while holding F12 and everything worked fine so who the hell knows what the issue was.

I have no idea, lol Sometimes laptops have one of the F keys assigned to switching to an external monitor so it's possible it wasn't displaying on the laptop because it was trying to elsewhere.

While my laptop is being worked on I got out my old one because it works better than none, but I'm having trouble keeping a good internet connection. Web pages will start taking forever to load or will just load forever without giving an error page or anything. I've really cleaned up this laptop in an attempt to help it run better, put on MSE virus protection (there were none found anyways), used CCleaner I found in one of that other thread over in this section, but nothing has helped the problem. The only thing I've found that fixes the issue is to uninstall the adapter and then reinstall it, and then it works great for an hour or two before it starts to degrade again.

This laptop is from 2004, so it's running windows XP, and it uses a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter

I had this issue before I bought a USB wireless adapter. The problem was interference and that could be the issue since you're running on wireless-g.

If you think your monitor is dead, just unmute it, log in and see if any sounds play.

Sorry if this is the wrong section for this but I am shopping for a replacement laptop. My needs are pretty basic, I just browse the web, download music and videos, and use basic programs like word and excel.

Can anyone offer any thoughts on this lenovo:

    Thanks!

Looks perfectly fine for what you have in mind.

Might be able to find one for $400 if you shop around a bit more, but typically that's about as low as you'll find a name-brand laptop for internet surfing that won't crap out on you and comes with a decent warranty.

There is a small grinding noise coming from my video card but I took it out and cleaned it, so nothing is hitting it. Just kinda seems like it's not lubricated enough anymore (are the fans even lubricated?). Just not really sure what is causing it as I cannot see anything in the way of the fan. Even when blowing compressed air on it, the fan spins unhindered.

    Edit: Card in question http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125316
