Starting to get questions from family about what I'd like for my birthday...(still a few months off) and I think I'm going to try to get a new TV out of it. I'd be looking to use my TV as my PC monitor as well(I currently do but I have a really shitty JVC CRT HDTV [INSERT ACRONYM HERE]) Can anyone recommend me a solid 720p TV that can double as a monitor around the 30" range?

So, I bought Rift a few weeks ago. I've been enjoying it regularly since except for one decently big problem. Twice in a row now, when I start swimming in the water, my screen blacks out. Like completely, nothing I can do. I'm somewhat computarded but I tried the good old ctrl/alt/del, windows key, pretty much everything even unplugging the monitor and replugging it in.

In short, PC doesn't want to let me enjoy swimming in Rift. Never happened with anything else.

AMD Phenom (tm) II x4 945 Processor 3.00 GHz
    4 Go of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4800 series graphics card.
Not quite sure what other info I could give you/ would be relevant.

Is it simply a matter of turning down the graphic settings of the game? They're not maxed out and it's not laggy.

After coming back to FFXI, I've been getting weird lag only on my desktop pc, which is odd because my desktop is better then my laptop. Also, I never had this issue when I had it installed before.

The lag is random. It's that lag where I'll hit say a macro to use Cure III. Nothing happens, I'll hit the macro again and I get the "cannot perform action" message. Then, on screen everything speeds up super fast playing catch up. I've ran AVG, Malware Bytes, and cleaned out every program I don't need. Re-ran Malware Bytes in Safe Mode and I do not pick up any malware, virus, etc etc. Re-ran CC cleaner to take care of all registry bits left behind.

Any suggestions on what the problem could be or some other bits of cleaning I can do while the servers are still down?

if you have a newer nvidia card make sure you have the latest driver, it contains a fix specifically for ffxi.

I have an ATI Radeon 8350 (i think, always forget #). I did the automatic update from Device Manager, which then made my screen all large and goofy looking. PC then was unable to locate the ATI card so I rolled back the driver and went to ATI's website and did the update. I'm on my laptop currently away from home so I'm unable to check which version it is.

One thing I'll consider to be the problem is I'm on DSL now. But, when I'm on my laptop I never have the same problem. I also connect both laptop and desktop through wireless. My apartment sucks...

Don't know if this would help, but I just had blue screen twice. got error PFN list corrupt. Went into device manager and Consumer IR Device wasn't working properly. I just went ahead and disabled it. Also, the lag isn't just in game. It happens while browsing the net as I watch pages load. Thanks for any replies!

So now that I am using a second monitor I've been making a use of the pause and play keys on my keyboard when I'm in full screen and can't just mouse over to press pause. The problem is those keys only seem to work with the default WMP and I prefer to use wmp classic or flv. Some of my videos don't even work with default wmp so I can't use it at all.

Is it possible to map those pause/play keys on the keyboard to work with other video/audio players?

HandBrake, or import the movie into iMovie, trim it down a bit and then use the Share -> YouTube/Facebook/Vimeo whatever options.

In vlc go tools>preferences>hotkey icon on the left side, then click on play/pause and click in the box near the bottom and press your play button. Same with other buttons. Not sure if there will be any conflicts with wmp, but if you're running vlc I imagine wmp will not be running.

    thank you kind sir

Edit: Nevermind, the keybindings worked but they don't work when I have a game in full screen for vlc (wmp worked with the game in full though).

in wmp classic I pressed the 'global media keys' option and it mapped the pause/start key and it works but again it won't work when I have my game playing. for whatever reason regular wmp is the only player that still detects the keyboard shortcuts while I have a game playing

So my wife's Dell Inspiron 1525 decided to act up this morning. Powered it up, nothing from the LCD. However, upon further inspection, we noticed the desktop is slightly visible. Guessing the back light is out. Just need to know if we need to fully replace the LCD, or is there a specific part I can buy and replace? Thanks in advance.

It may be/is probably the power inverter, not the actual backlight, which is usually a small circuit board inside the LCD casing. Here is a step by step. The part will run $5-10 far as I can see.

Trying to set up my ps3 controller so that it works with ffxi on my pc. Im using DS3 tool so my pc will recognize it and to set up what does what on the controller. For some reason my analog sticks are not being recognized in the ffxi config menu and I cant set them for movement.
I turned off the sixaxis through the DS3 tool because it was originally using that to determine my movement but it still does not work. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Using windows 7 64 bit if that helps.

Between a Sennhesier PC350 and a Senn HD550 running through a Mixamp, will there be much discernible difference in sound one way or the other?

I've got a question about crossfire. I currently have a Sapphire HD5870 1gb Vapor-X card and I was thinking of picking up another one for crossfire. If I'm unable to find the exact card, what do I need to look for? Do the clock speeds need to be identical? Or do I just need to keep it in the family (5870)? Do most games support SLI/Crossfire these days? Will a crossfire setup even give me much of a performance increase? I have a Core i7 920 running the stock clock. I'm kinda wondering if I shouldn't just slap an aftermarket cooler on it and overclock that bitch first. That's probably the cheapest performance upgrade I can get at this point.

I'll answer your question when you return to ffxi.

    ......

Ok, I don't k now much about crossfire setups. However your best bang for your buck would really be to overclock that i7, instead of another card.
