Incidentally, to answer the question I was myself asking back before I built this new computer: I would not recommend running FFXI on Intel HD4000 graphics. It's stable, but I get slowdown running 1920x1200 with maxed graphics settings like I prefer. Even with a 10 year old game, get a discrete graphics card.

anybody know of a good free flac to mp3 converted that does the full job and not only a portion of each song until you register it? Would be much appreciated!

Need to take apart my Razer Naga to try and clean off the left-click tab due to erroneous double-clicking when pushed. Basically a common enough problem for people to apparently have posted on it on the net. My problem, however, is in trying to remove one of the 4 screws in the mouse's base. It stripped almost too easily. The screw head isn't very wide, maybe 1/8th an inch. The screw itself is about a quarter inch deep into a channel in the plastic, so this also rules out things like trying a rubber band or filing a groove along the top of the head for a flat head.

The only other real alternative I've seen would be drilling into the screw with a smaller bit, and slowly trying to reverse it out. Problem is, I don't have a drill, let alone a bit that small. I've wondered if maybe filling the groove with glue and slipping a screwdriver in while it's still wet would do any good, sort of a variant of the rubber band to help secure a hold, but I can also see that just making a mess. Anyone ever been in a situation similar to this? And if so, how'd you get the screw out?

Edit: Wound up tracking down a drill and did it that way. Mangled the casing a little in the process, but a bit of internal gutting let me get things fitting back together. Didn't quite fix my double-click issue, but it seems improved.

    http://lame.sourceforge.net/

Probably the same thing used by most non-free converters.

Audacity can import FLAC (and tons of other audio formats) and export to MP3 with the LAME DLL. Plus, it's open source.

    Re: Random Question Thread: Tech

    Wireless network problem, I'm stumped.

Trying to connect to my wireless network at home with my mac book air. When I'm on the Mac osx side, I can connect to the router and Internet just fine.

When I'm running windows, I can connect to the router but not the Internet. Just keeps telling me it's some DNS error.

Multiple resets result in same thing, every device on my network can connect...... But not running windows on my mac.

Try setting your dns servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

What's the simplest way to merge/transcode an FLV file + srt subtitle into a single mkv file?

    Handbrake should do.

Or just use mkv merge directly.

I was going to suggest mkvmerge, but I hadn't seen that it supported flv.

It doesn't actually, but it's easy enough to extract the flv.

Yep, FLVExtract + mkvmerge did exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. Handbreak wasn't required, but it is nice to have around for transcoding without flubbing around in VirtualDub.

So I uploaded a bunch of my photos from Comicon on my BG bucket. However I just realized they're all tablebreaking so I cant really post them.

Since Im not too good with something as simple as uploading apparently, can anyone PM me some instructions on how to resize all these images without having to go into them and doing them one by one? Perhaps adding some kind of limit? There's over 200 photos so it would really suck if there's no other option.

How bad are they? I'm p. sure BG Bucket doesn't have any options for editing or deleting en masse, but if you don't care about tidying up you can simply use something to resize them all as a batch on your computer and upload 2nd set. Something like this would work, just select them all, right-click and go from there: http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/ - there are plenty more options, too.

I apologize if this is the wrong RQT, I'm wondering if my laptop would be poweful enough to run two instances of ffxi so I can dualbox using windower and sandbox. I have an Alienware M11X, it has a Core 2 Duo intel processor that are normally 1.3 ghz, but currently overclocked to 1.73 ghz, 8 gb ram, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M, and Windows 7 64 bit. A couple people in my linkshell wondered if the processor would be good enough for it, and I couldn't find anything online in terms of recommended dual boxing specs..

Thank you in advance for you advice!

I would +1 the hell out of you. Thanks so much for the help. worked like a charm!

Now my last issue is deleting all 200+ I uploaded from BG bucket, and that looks like it'll need to be one by one haha.

Unless it's just for the sake of keeping tidy, I honestly wouldn't worry about it; you're nowhere near your cap for the bucket.

CPU has always been the bottleneck for XI. I'm not exactly sure how good the architecture is for the Core 2 Duo, but considering what we ran it on back in the day I'd say it's a question if it'll look as good as you like like rather than if it'll be able to run 2 instances.
