Thank you in advance for you advice!
Should be fine, i used to 4-5 box ffxi on a pc that wasn't much better than that (2.2 ghz athlon 64, 7600 gt, and 2 gb of ram), and the only reason i couldn't run more than that was because i didn't have enough ram.

Uh..I thought I'd ask about this in case there is a way to salvage my sister's rubber dome kb later but...

I just found out that my sister's non mechanical/rubber dome keyboard (the kind I don't like; I'm hooked on mechanical keyboards) suffered a juice spill that was blamed on the 1 year old we regularly babysit. Is there a way to salvage that or is that kb garbage now? It was a few hours before she discovered the spill...

I have an ASRock z77 extreme4. If I put an audio card in the bottommost pci lane, would that affect my pcie x16 lane and slow it down to x8?

Could depend on how it's constructed and how bad the spill was. If all or parts of the keyboard aren't responding, then most likely there are shorts due to the liquid that you might be able to fix by taking it apart and thoroughly cleaning it. The juice probably got into membrane layers, and if left long, it may corrode the contacts/etc.
If keys are sticking, then it's probably just a matter of popping those keys off (at least) and cleaning the plastic around them. Many are designed to at least be semi-resistant to spills.

'course, if it's a cheap piece of crap, I'd limit the amount of time spent trying to salvage it as you can just buy a new one for $10.

Thanks Isiolia. She's already ordered a new one so I assume it was a cheap piece'o..

I'm going to check and see if I can get her a keyboard cover for Christmas since the folks we babysit for are having another baby on the way; Since she likes nice lighted ones, I don't think she'd want to rep it when the babies spill stuff on it again..

May be buying my brothers tablet off him, just a quick question. What is a good remote desktop/streaming app? Would like to be able to play games from my desktop on the tablet (not big on my list of why I want it, but I know it's kinda possible). Also while streaming would I be able to use a controller from the tablet? Using the controller on the tablet itself is np, just don't know if it can translate/send that signal to the PC very easy.

Nope. The reduction to x8 only applies if you populate both PEG (aka PCIe x16) slots. PCI is already "legacy" and most of the time connected via a superIO chip or a PCI-to-PCIe bridge to the chipset, the PEG slots go directly to the PCIe lanes of the CPU.

Is anyone familiar with bias lighting or lights behind your monitor? I'm trying to figure out a good lighting setup for my computer. Right now I've got an overhead fan-lamp that creates shadows and glare on the screen and a lamp off to the side that doesn't produce enough light on its own and is also a little distracting in having this bright light in the edge of my vision when looking at the screen.

I was considering either an LED strip behind the monitor or an actual lamp or bright light-source behind the monitor to light the room well enough on its own at night. Any suggestions?

My work is trying to get a company to a logo on our glass door in our building. They will only accept the file in .API format apparently.

What program can I create an API or is there a converter out there. Thanks

I can't find what applicable program that would belong to. Do you know if they maybe mean .ai? That would be an Adobe Illustrator document, and would make more sense (a number of programs can work with it).

The girl that was told this knows very little about file types, so its possible. She swears it was .API, and just mentioned "they said API or IE." Having trouble finding information on either. I'll try and reach out to them myself.

My guess would be .ai or .eps, the latter being a more general vector graphics file format.

I'm buying a CM 212 EVO for my i5-3570k and was wondering about the thermal paste. Does the 212 comes with its own? I'd read that somewhere and wasn't sure since I'd bought some Antec Formula 7 prior. Will that work if it doesn't and would it be better? I'd thought previously that all thermal paste was more or less the same, but saw mentions that certain kinds don't work with certain coolers and thought to ask.

I have the 212+ and the 3570k. It came with thermal paste. The picture has it on newegg. I screwed up the install due to poor instructions. I have a new backplate coming in tomorrow. Hopefully everything will still fit and work. Stock heatsink blows.

Some are better than others, but i wouldn't really worry about it.

Awesome, I'll just return the Antec then, thanks.

Weird problem. I got my backplate in the mail. Installed my Hyper 212+ with an additional fan in push/pull(One of the CM Blue LED Fans around 69cfm) both plugged into the cpu fan headers. Turned on PC, fans were running full speed so kind of loud. Temps were drastically lower. So the cooler is working fine. I went into the BIOS and turned the cpu fan into automatic mode(the only mode that would let me change speeds) then I turned the cpu fan speeds from 255( full speed) to 215 then 185. The fan is still kind of loud, but now I feeling a vibration on my table. My PC is loading things up kind of slowly now. What is going on?

i5 3570k, ASRock z77 extreme4. idle ~27(core#1 @23), max load I saw from playing CS GO was 41 but I am not really taxing the cpu much. No GPU atm.

Well, turning the fan speeds back to full on has stopped the vibrating. So now I just need to know how to turn down the fan speeds w/o causing that vibrating.

Any chance that this netbook will be able to play ffxi in SNES settings? I can get it for ~$70, so might just try anyways, and have a cheap netbook/toy/etc to play with.
