x264 with some front end?
tried to get it working with virtualdub, using external encoder but it seems to not detect x264 or x264vfw. Would be nice if I could get meGUI working, their 64 bit project died >.>
15min 24sec video 92GB, rather not split it into pieces, then encode it all... need lazy mode easy!
Were you using 64 bit virtualdub with 64 bit x264vfw?
yes ,for whatever reason though 64bit vdub did not detect the install (tried both the stable 1.9.9 and the experimental 1.10.3) and yes I installed then opened up each. I even tried just installing it into the folder vdub is in, and still won't see it so no idea.
downloaded the latest 64bit x264vfw

So newegg has one of these AMD APU's on sale today and tomorrow and looking into it. Anyone using one? Right now I have a Phenom X4 3.6ghz CPU and 2 AMD 6870 GPUs Xfired together, wondering how the APU acts if you have PCI-E GPUs installed as well?
No reason to even think about amd cpus really.
APUs are good for ultra low budget builds and HTPCs but they are pointless if you are going to be adding in a dedicated GPU, especially one that can't hybrid-CF or w/e it is with the iGPU. The CPUs themselves are weak and top out at dual core/quad module so the only reason to use them is because of the faster iGPU compared to those found on Intel CPUs. Infact I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up slower than your current CPU, add to that the fact that you'll need a new MB as they use the FM2 socket and it's just spending money on what will likely be a downgrade.
As much as it hurts me to say this (the last Intel CPU i had in my tower PCs was a Pentium III, go figure...), but the current AMD APUs are crap. The only thing that's good about them is the integrated graphics as long as you DON'T want to use a separate GPU, they're way faster than the Intel HD graphics in the Core i processors. But that's it, the CPU part is slow as hell compared to Intel CPUs with similar GHz, and they need more power for it...
They might be an option for low budget PCs or media center builds that use the IGP, but definitely not for gaming.
Yeah that's what I was figuring. It's a pretty interesting concept and I would like to see how it works a few generations from now. I've always been an AMD guy mostly due to budget and the fact they havn't shit themselves on me yet so no reason to complain. I do want to go back to Nvidia though for GPUs, the AMD control center is just garbage.
Hehe. I guess because of similar reasons to yours (budget etc) all my self builds had AMD processors so far, and, due to personal preference and price/performance back then, nVida GPUs. But my next build which will probably be sometime this year will be the exact opposite, Intel processor and AMD GPU.
IMHO, what AMD did horribly wrong with their CPUs, they did quite well with the GPUs. They offer a great bang for the buck, and the drivers have gotten stable enough with no major hick-ups. Don't care much for the AMDCC, used it maybe 2 or 3 times so far since I switched from a GTX460 to a 6950.
Anyone got a power supply brand they really like? I bought a rocketfish power supply and it crapped the bed in under a year and am disappointed. Something in the 1k watt range ideally. Mostly interested in brand though, I can hunt on my own.
Corsair/XFX/Seasonic/Antec are generally good brands but you should always look for (professional) reviews on the particular unit as occasional you get a shit one from an otherwise good manufacturer, what are you powering that needs 1k?
*need* would be overstating it, but I7-3820 and 2x Radeon 7850s. I'd rather a larger power supply that doesn't have to work as hard, then a smaller one I run closer to capacity.
You don't need anywhere near 1k for that, more like 750W or maybe 850W if you have tons of peripherals and that is assuming you OC the hell out of it all. Looking at ~350W system usage at stock clocks and ~550W with heavy OCs on GPU and CPU, it'll be cheaper and more efficient to buy lower wattage unit (50~70% is the most efficient).
I've used BeQuiet! PSUs for years and never had any problems with them. Well, one of them failed, but tech support was excellent and sent me a new one. Can't say that support over in the US is as good as here in Europe, but the brand itself is top notch.
And about over-provisioning your PSU... You're aware of PSUs always being less efficient on low load percentages, right? So buying a PSU that delivers more than you need actually wastes energy and money.
Let me post this once more: http://www.enermax.outervision.com/
Put in your specs, let it calculate a recommendation, round up to the nearest 50W step and to be safe, add another 50W on top. Tada, you have the perfect wattage for your PC.
If you are US based then this 850W 80+ Gold Seasonic is amazing value, $99.99 after MIR and promo
Looking for a good TV wall mount kit
