So I can't tell if I done fucked up or if Win7 is just being stupid to me. When I made my backup of my C drive before onto my portable drive it was about the same size as the C drive; As in the drive I backed up onto went from ~0GB used to ~761GB used. But when I just used win7 to restore the files onto a new 1tb drive that just arrived.. it restored a grand total of 31.4GB: Literally only everything that was in C:\Users\.

I'm so confused right now. How does I get mah files.

So Ive tried downloading things a few times and my net keeps cutting out and apparently there's no way to resume the download, it just looks as if it's done but obviously it wont work. I always thought that if a download got cut off, it picks up where it left off?

Only if two conditions are met: your client software (e.g., your web browser) supports it, and the server you're downloading from allows it. There are some more particulars, like downloads that require authentication, but really, the prior two are your general concerns. Through what type of software are you trying to download something?

how do I improve my laptop download speed when I'm at home using wifi?

I'm pretty sure connecting via ethernet cable would improve the download speed, but what factors are involved in slowing down my downloads to my laptop?

The same sort of things that would slow download speeds on a desktop apply as well: Any other internet activity, including especially any type of video or music streaming or download. Any torrents or additional downloads. In addition, being too close or too far to the wireless transmitter will have an effect. Less than five feet in particular is lousy.

A quick check you can make is boot up your laptop, start no other programs, then go to speedtest.net and check your connection. Then plug in your ethernet cord, disable your wireless, and check again.

At a rough guess, your wireless is about half as fast as your wired internet.

To go off of that advice, what is your wired and wireless speed comparison? Despite never thinking it would be an actual problem because internet was slow as fuck forever, on something like a speedy cable connection wireless G's actual throughput can be less than what you can actually achieve, which wired would have no problem with. If you're using wireless G, "54mbps" is the theoretical cap but in reality it tends to be quite a bit lower.

As far as improving it, there's distance and in-house interference like phones and microwaves, but I can't imagine you'd see anything noticeable.

OK. Thought I'd ask before I take the plunge (Finishing up The Big Backup now for the compy rebuild; Might have that started after dinner)

A while ago, I asked how to basically start a chkdisk with a click on XP. Here's the bat file I've been using for that. Even tho the reason I needed that is no longer applicable, I've gotten to like the convenience anyway.

Will that work on Windows 7 Ultimate (since part of it is a new terabyte hdd) or is there another way to do it on Win 7? I'm going to be running TWO hdds now.

So I had been having issues with Windows crashing on me randomly, determined it was a bad memory stick, so I replaced the bad one, and also added 2GB RAM so now I'm running 6GB total on Windows 7 64-bit....and well, now none of my screen savers work. The only ones I can get to work is the blank screen one, any other option gives me an error message saying the program stopped working.

Any idea what could be causing this? Only thing I messed around with, was just unplugging the wires from the machine earlier to put the new RAM card in, and then I cleaned out some of the dust from inside the pc, but I didn't mess with any power settings or change video drivers recently, and the screen saver was working as recently as two nights ago when I last was using the pc to figure out why it had been crashing.

What's the shortcut key to highlight the address bar in firefox? Like if I was on this page right now and want to highlight it without using the mouse?

So I've got my sorta fresh install of windows 7 with some shit installed. And I have my backup of my old c drive. I need to reinstall some programs, like firefox, winamp, and the software for my Corsair HS1 headset.

Is there a way for me to retain, or recover, the settings from my my previous installation? For example the equalizer settings on winamp.

Probably not, other than load times.
