i'm just going to follow the intel guide.

http://download.intel.com/support/mo...user_guide.pdf if you wanna read it. it's rather fucking neat.

edit: found an awesome guide if anyone else has/or is getting a z68 and wants to try this. it essentially uses the SSD as a medium for the HDD and you use the SSD's speed with the HDD's capacity. pretty fucking awesome in theory. it's definitely faster.

Has anyone had any trouble who uses the HD 5xxx series graphic cards since the last driver update. Seems CCC (aka AMD Vision engine control center) installs the new driver but the computer uses an old version of the driver. I solved that problem but now my card doesn't want to do HD video of any kind on my computer. It locks up the computer. And as luck has it the old driver doesn't work anymore with the new ccc. Weeeeeeeee! Sucks watching netflix on non HD and all my movies on my hard drive that are blu-ray do not play.

I haven't had any problems with my 5850, but I also installed this:

Might help, though it doesn't mention your issue specifically. :/

This stupid blinking cursor is everywhere, the line that's only supposed to show up in the text boxes, how do I get rid of it? I'm sure it's some combination of control and something else but I can't figure out what and it's really annoying me D:

    Also, I'm talking about in-browser

This past week my PC has crashed twice while doing ordinary things (downloading torrents, watching a video embedded from youtube) and, upon restarting, has tried to boot from the wrong drive. Now, after a few days have passed, it tries to boot from the wrong drive every time I start up my PC. I can fix it by restarting, going to the boot menu, and selecting the proper drive...but this isn't exactly something I want to do every single time I use my PC.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Try repairing the MBR. Might not work, but it can't hurt.

I tried following the instructions on here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ot-record.html

When I boot from the Windows 7 disk and try proceeding to system recovery, it tells me that my disk isn't compatible with the version of Windows I'm running. Wat?

Edit: Turns out these were just the symptoms of what was apparently my SSD's terminal illness. At least it didn't suffer long

Well...at least it's still under warranty. Thanks anyway for the help.

Got a question about core processing speeds.

I'm planning on buying an ASUS G73 laptop which is spec'd at 2.0 GHz on a quad core. Is it true that the clock speed is higher when only 1 or 2 cores are active or only when I "Turbo-boost"?

    ...yes?

Turbo Boost is basically what you said - the CPU clocks cores faster when fewer are in use. Looking on Google, the 2GHz G73 I saw used an i7-2630QM, which according to Intel has a max turbo frequency of 2.9Ghz (though Amazon's specs for the G73 say 2.8Ghz).

Ok, I thought it was something that the processor did automatically. Thanks.

It does. When the processor is idling it throttles down, when you start using it it'll ramp it back up to stock speeds automatically.

I'm running Windows 7 32-bit currently. I can upgrade to 64-bit, but I really REALLY hate having to reinstall everything (especially stupid FFXI).

Am I an idiot for NOT upgrading, or with my system am I not going to see a large enough increase in performance to merit my laziness?

Can't really say just from specs, but outside of turning down free/nearly free parts, I don't see why you'd be an idiot for not upgrading. Long as your rig is cutting it for what you want/need to do, why spend the money? What you've got isn't terrible - it's still in line with a budget build at least - so unless it's falling short in some way I wouldn't worry about it.

He means by putting 32 OS on instead of 64 bit.

You're not doing anything demanding, just do it next time you feel like reformatting.

you're losing like a gig of ram or more from using 32 bit, besides that won't make much, if any, difference in speed. (whatever amount of ram your gfx card has will count against your 4 gigs)

Ok, right now I'm playing FFXI so I imagine the RAM needed for this is small compared to what I have available. If, for example, I were to install a game such as Rift in the future would it be advisable to upgrade to 64bit, or is 32bit still sufficient enough to get good performance and quality? (I'm an OS noob if you can't tell)

I don't even understand why win7 has a 32bit version at all... so people can install it on 6+ year old systems?
