Keep in mind he's talking about laptops, and ones with decent GPUs in them - which get expensive. Workstation cards in general are far more expensive than gaming cards too.

It'd depend on the app for performance, or even the review...some show consumer cards working well, though I've seen results showing very different results too.

Get a $400 netbook and a $1600 top of the line desktop, then. It's not like he's actually going to be rendering on-the-go.

True I won't be rendering on the go, but I'll be moving between studio, dorm, library, (or whatever is open after studio closes..) and chances are I might need to render outside of studio. We have ass-backwards rules when it comes to studio hours. The worst is that our render-farm is becoming a print-lab only. Shit sux.

Besides, the rendering I will be doing uses the CPU, not the GPU, unless I'm somehow mistaken.

Anyone have good recommendations for good headsets? I was looking at the Razer Megalodon, Logitech G35 and Logitech G930. Reviews on the first two are better, but the Razer seems to have better features. Anyone have experience with one, some, all?

I feel like there's a chance Boyiee may punch you in the jaw when he sees this. Almost every time I've seen a headset thread here, it's gone back to Sennheiser HD555 headphones that can be modified to a pair of 595s really easily with the Zalman Microphone Zm-Mic1 instead of an actual one-piece headset for both value and actual quality. Supposedly headsets are shit.

What he said for the most part. Get the HD555's from amazon for less than $95, pair it with the zalman mic thats under "items frequently bought together" for like $10. Best headphone/set decision you'll have ever made. Do not buy the 595's as they are just the 555's with a piece of foam in the earcups that you can remove in about 2minutes with no technical skill at all.

It may seem pricey, but it ends up being worth it in the long run. I've bought several pairs of headsets for 10-40$ and all have malfunctioned, broke, or cheaped out on me after X amount of time. So much wasted money. VOIP has never been better, and music sounds amazing through the headphones.

Essentially you are buying a higher-end pair of headphones, and pairing it with a decent mic. Headsets from logitech/razer are typically low quality headphones+low quality mic priced at a premium cause they put them together for you. Also the logitech and razer ear cups can turn to cut-your-ear-off-plastic after so much use.

As long as they're on the same network and both turned on/open, check the Traces tab to see if there are any errors or if PS3 media server is using the wrong networking interface under General Config tab > Network settings. If the traces tab says anything about being unable to bind to port 5001, try incrementing it to 6001. Also remember to hit save and restart the program anytime you make changes, it isn't automatic.

the last entry says "the server should now appear on your renderer" but on the main page it says ps3 not detected.

I went to my ps3 and hit search for media players and it worked and now PMS can see it also thanks guys

Might have to reduce the quality of the stream or use a cable, going via wireless isn't fast enough for HD streaming afaik

It should have a pre-set for wireless in the options, can't remember if there are other options in the menus that are relevant for avi files.

Monitor brand recommendations? My 24" LG display went kaput after 3.5 years. Aside from the monitor itself, LG's handling of it was discerning with their broken drivers for it and non-English manual.

I'm mainly after another 24" display, 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 as its native resolution, and needs to have an HDMI port for my PS3. Something to tide me over until small-sized 3D monitor/tvs are of a reasonable price. Looking at a $150-199 budget range.

Edit: Nvm, fixed it. My mom was torrenting. Teaching your parents to torrent is a bad idea.

I recently got the VH232H. For games its ok, but doesn't look near as good as my 2 year old Gateway FHD2400 (though to be fair the Gateway was at least 2-3x the price). Most notably text is a lot harder to read, it seems to make characters a little too thin. Spent a lot of time trying to get the color to match the other monitor, but never really got all the way there. I'm sure that's what I get for not having 2 of the same monitor though.
