Look though the AMD thing for something called overscan. I think that is typically for hdtvs but it may apply to the way its running your monitor.

That one or a 560 ti?

Would also like to know if there is anything better around the $220-$260 price range?

There's a new 560 ti coming out really soon (might be today) so you might want to hold off until it hits retailers.

    i5 2500k OC to 4.0
    8 gb ram
    120 gb ssd
    sapphire radeon 6950 2gb
    gigabyte motherboard
A bootloop means a bad overclock. Take a look at that article to boot the original BIOS instead of the flashed ones. There should be a switch on the card to use the original BIOS instead of the 6870 BIOS.

i changed the i5 to stock 3.3 and reflashed the bios to a 6950 in the switch 1 position.
did the process over again with a different program to change only the shaders and it worked after reboot.

after everything was working i OCed the cpu back to 4.0 and pc is running smooth again.

not really sure how it worked that time but oh well i got it working haha

You made sure it was the new one with 448 cores right? Just making sure you're getting what you wanted!

    Was it this one?

So, I was shopping for a monitor to use externally with my laptop for awhile now and ended up grabbing a 32 inch Panasonic TV to try and use for both a monitor and TV. My laptop only has a VGA out so I connected it with that. The laptop's a dell from like 2005 and the display works externally, but within the screen resolution settings it defaults to 1024x768 and only allows me to go up to 1600x1200, which the monitor doesn't even accept. The highest the monitor will allow me to set is 1366x768, also defaulting to 1024x768. Is there any way to set the monitor to 1920x1080 and get the laptop to output that resolution? Am I stuck? Would anything else work?

The laptop's display is natively 1920x1200 and the monitor is 1920x1080.

What does the monitor type show up as? Could be that it's showing as a Standard VGA Monitor or something - basically that it could just be a software restriction due to generic settings.

Could also look at drivers, making sure the internal display is off (this is the one that doesn't work anyway right?), and if necessary, try to force a custom resolution with PowerStrip.

Might need to just lower the res of your laptops screen first, I seem to remember having similar issues when I tried using my laptop on a HDTV.

I'll try the suggestions, currently it's marked as "Generic PnP monitor". I thought I'd try to set the resolution last night but I'm not sure how I can since I can't access the screen without remote desktop and that won't let me change resolutions lol

Generic PnP monitor means the generic drivers are installed. You need to manually install the correct drivers from your TV.

The restriction maybe a limitation of your video card, but I would try to install the drivers for your TV manually.

    Try looking here:

That laptop has 2 possible video cards:

Integrated Intel GMA 900 graphics or ATI Mobility Radeon X300

Integrated Intel GMA 900 graphics is possible to achieve 2048x1536 at 85 Hz maximum resolution according to the specs page. Check for a graphics driver here if you have that card. http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/graphics

If you have ATI Mobility Radeon X300 you need to look into some custom drivers. I'd recommend http://donotargue.com/ for DNA drivers. This should let you achieve a higher resolution. Check out this post, it relates to your issue and might clarify everything for you. http://en.community.dell.com/support.../17240453.aspx

My brother was updating the BIOS on his laptop and something went horribly wrong and now it won't do anything went the power is turned on. Is his laptop now just a giant paper weight, or is there some way to flash a BIOS when the computer won't even attempt to boot?

There may be a way to reset the bios, but if not, you won't be able to fix it without very expensive hardware that you don't have.
