Does screen size matter for video cards? I just ordered a new vid card, and was wondering if I could hook it up to my 42" tv instead of my 23" monitor, and still keep the same performance.

It's more about resolutions than screen size. TVs have a smaller resolution than most monitors so you'll be fine.

Though, I'd half suspect that both your TV and monitor are 1920x1080 resolution. If so, the performance should be the same.

Been thinking about picking up a pair of decent headphones for home use for a while now, and a Beyerdynamic BT880 popped up on another buy&sell forum.
There's a 32, 250 and 600Ω version of these, seller hasn't listed the exact model yet, but it's also interesting for future reference. Have a Yamaha RX-V667 receiver, on the manual I could only find:

Headphone Jack Rated output/Impedance
AV5, etc. (1kHz, 50W, 8Ω).............100mV/560Ω

Is the 560Ω the maximum it can properly drive, only a recommended value or are these values something that manufacturers often exaggerate?

If buying new, I'm leaning towards a Sennheiser HD598, other recommendations in that price segment are of course always welcome!

I am looking to get a MacBook Pro for my animations major, mostly to learn the OS because I have no experience with it and maybe do some animation related stuff on it. Plus, the Academy of Art University have a lot of Mac based lab stations. Will a MacBook Pro serve my purposes or should I go for an iMac? If I do get one, should I get one now or is there a new lineup coming soon?

Interested in getting a cheap tablet to test the waters. Not exactly sure how much use I'll get, but I liked tinkering with my mom's nook getting the sdcard to boot android instead, and I'm interested in some light reading too. I didn't want to jump in balls to the wall with something like the transformer prime, I guess I'd like to stay around $300 or less. Any opinions on the options available?

Nero used to be OK around 2000, but ever since it just got bigger with more "features"... And now it's just a big pack of crap. CDBurnerXP or Infrarecorder are only meant for burning data and they do this just fine. ImgBurn is perfect for burning image files.

Nook Color and Kindle Fire are really really good

Not exactly sure if the required software you'll be using is OSX only or can be run on a windows machine. If you do have the money I suggest you just get one now. The last update was Oct of last year so it's like in the middle of it's life cycle. The new one would probably be released later this year late autumn/early winter?

If you're looking to save money tho you can just get a decent Windows laptop for much less and install OSX on it. I'm assuming you're a pretty knowledgeable guy since you want to learn the OS. Check out the OSX86 wiki for more info on that. I built one long ago cause I too was interested in the OS. I'm sure it's a lot easier now with much more shared info as opposed to those Tiger days.

Random gmail question:

For the last month or two my gmail inbox will only show 26 items at a time. It used to show 30 items at a time before, but I don't know how to change it back or why it's even doing this. My google-fu has turned up nothing, so I'm hoping someone here might know wtf is going on. It's nothing critical, I'm just kinda annoyed by it. Thanks.

It's set to display 50 items, but my inbox only shows 26 still. Dunno why

Two issues:

1. During FFXI, I experienced pink pixels popping up and my laptop crashed (A dump file and all). Upon rebooting, the computer did a disk check (FAT32 and other stuff I don't remember...) and eventually loaded up the welcome screen as is normal. However, when I logged in, the screen blinked multiple times and crashed again. This occurred three times. I then started in safe mode and there was no issue. I started normally and it appears to be fine. As suggested by a friend, I've installed Nvidia's temperature gadget and it is at 56 degrees while on the game. I have 12GB of ram, which is well over what I use. I also have an Intel SSD 320 Series 120GB. My friend says the issue sounds like the GPU overheating, but I cannot imagine that being the case since I have played under more intense conditions (Length of time) and the build of this laptop should have prevented that. Thus, I would like to double check and confirm his speculation.

2. I think my SSD is running slower than when I originally installed it. Any way to check that?

Your gpu is dieing. I had an old geforce 6x00 start putting up random color pixels shortly before its demise.
